i dont know if this will help... but maybe to ease the phone bills....

if you use skype you can call each other via the internet.. hence no extra expense and you can talk to each other..... its kinda cool... i gave it a whizz on the weekend ...

Skype is wonderful. Also have Vonage for home phone which has a good inexpensive plan for unlimited calls to many countries (they have different packages). Is only for landlines in the UK...think I pay around $30 a month for it. Not bad at all - eases the cell phone. Cingular has pretty decent international plans, too, though - have that, too. Just need my own private jet... That would be great - could fly back and forth whenever. We make trips about every 2 months (couple of his stays have been long 1-2 months). Still not enough. Just want him here.

Skype is great! I also use a calling card from www.callingcards.com where I found a good rate. Visits are expensive, even with cheap airfare because I'm missing so much work. But this is a temporary phase of my life. Soon we'll be through with this horrible process and be together for good. I try hard to stay optimistic, though at times it is so difficult!

I see so many January filers with touches now. Most are probably days away from approval, and then February starts...

It's expensive being apart for sure, but even worse than that are vacation restrictions at work. If I didn't need to have a steady job for this process, I would quit and stay with my wife in Ukraine until we were done. As it is, in the last few months I already took 5 weeks of vacation and feel that my boss was really understanding just to give me that. Next month my wife and I plan to meet in the Dominican Republic because it was one of the few places "over here" that she could get a visa to. I'm flying in to meet her on Memorial day weekend, then flying back to work for 4 days, then flying back the next weekend! I wish there was an easier way to be together. This is really bad. With as much tax money as our government wastes, you'd think they could throw a little bit towards immigration at least until they got caught up.

Wife's visa journey:

03/19/07: Initial mailing of I-129F.

07/07/11: U.S. Citizenship approved and Oath Ceremony!

MIL's visa journey:

07/26/11: Initial mailing of I-130.

05/22/12: Interview passed!

Yeah agreed...it IS the time off from work that's the most expensive for me going to visit. Thankfully he can do his work from here - so his visits are longer than mine. Luckily job is very flexible in letting me off whenever. Of course over vacation time, it's just unpaid leave.

Also would LOVE to see some tax dollars going to at least catchup the backlog. They did that already, didn't they...just wasn't enough?
