The shuffleboard stuff is silica balls, I thought. I think I remember a product specifically designed for shuffleboard. We were always the only people playing it so we had to do some maintenance on the board before playing.

It's not exactly like curling because with curling, as I understand, you can make the puck go faster or slower with your magic broom thing. No such item in shuffleboard. Shuffleboard is kind of like bocce ball; you want to get your puck as close to a spot as possible (in this case, the end). You can knock off other players pucks. If you get a "hanger" that is super awesome. That is when your puck is half hanging off the end of the board (there is a gutter on the sides and ends).

I have not played shuffleboard while drinking, but this sounds fun. I might have to find some hipster bar in BK that has it, but it would be crowded :(

Edit: WOO! It was silica and it is a product called "shuffle powder.". http://www.zieglerworld.com/shuffleboard-waxes.htm?gclid=CjwKEAjw1Iq6BRDY_tK-9OjdmBESJABlzoY72IVlUdvJUTqD6Qk_Z_g2IineZOLpozqfS2RZy7ILexoC9zvw_wcB

So can someone tell me the max size of the grain size as this would play a major factor in the game.,..do sharks sprinkle on sea salt before their opponent takes a shot.

This is fascinating stuff.

This obviously a very complex game.....think I'll take it up with a saltcellar in my pocket. Thanks Succa...big gains to be made.

Nuuu, salt would pit and scratch the board and ruin it! :D

We used to call it "cheese" as it resembles grated cheese.

They have different formulas of the powder that achieve different results.

This Shuffleboard kit contains one can of each of the following speeds of wax:

• Speed 1 Formerly Super Glide (The fastest) - The most Super Fast powder around! Pure silicone ball bearings. This powder gives you the game with the most challenge. Finesse and touch are the key to winning with this powder. One of our best sellers.

• Speed 2 - (Formerly Tournament Gold) - Sun-Glo's newest powder, formulated for the serious player. Used in most tournament play and preferred by professionals.

• Speed 3 (Formerly Brown Bear) - This powder gives you speed and control as well as a faster game (but not the fastest). This has been one of our customers' favorite Sun-Glo products for many years.

• Speed 4 (Formerly Yellow Bear) - Gives you a fast game with the ability to control your speed. A very popular powder with many shuffleboard fans.

• Speed 5 (Formerly 5 Star) - For a medium-fast game, and ideal for all 14- to 22-foot shuffleboard playing fields. Another popular powder for both professional and social players. This powder gives players a comfortable game - with optimum speed and control.

• Speed 6 (Formerly Medium Speed) - This powder is best on smaller tables - a perfect partner to 9- to 12-foot tables. Provides a slower game for a 14-foot table.

Hey this reminds me of an Irish dive bar I used to play pool in on the UES. There was this nut who always used to bring in his own sticks for competitions... Big money to be made in illegal side bets. Used to fight about the rules. Disappeared for a while. Found out he was killed.....

Let's start a traveling VJ Shuffleboard league.

I used to play in weekly pool and dart leagues. It was a lot of fun, but as I got older the late nights during the week were too much.
