Hi there,

I plan to marry my fiance and move to the US to be with her, I have a few questions about a child from a previous relationship though that I'm uncertain how to approach.

I have not been in contact with the child's mother or the child for quite some time but I still pay child maintenance.

I was wondering if I would have to notify the mother of my immigration status and how that would affect the process.

I'd rather not contact if I don't have to because she's caused me a lot of pain in the past.

I do not plan to take the child with me which is why I was wondering if I'd even have to talk to her at all.

Also, about paying child maintenance whilst living in a different country, does anybody have any experience with this and maybe fancy talking through it with me?

Thanks for taking the time to read my questions.

I can not think of any reason why you would need to notify her.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

You don't need to notify your ex, but you do need to keep paying child maintenance. Moving doesn't take your responsibility away.

Could you please privately message me and share any information that you have. My fiancé and I are in exactly the same situation.

they have three children, two biological. There was no financial agreement in their divorce.
