Hi all,

Hoping someone will be able to help - have scoured these forums and the internet in general and have come up with conflicting advice.

I am a US/UK citizen and my husband is a UK citizen. We're moving to the US after 10 years in Europe. I'm filing for a IR-1 visa for my husband via DCF at the USCIS Field Office in London.

I'm trying to complete form I-130, but question 18 in section C is stumping me. It asks "Address in the United States where your relative intends to live (street address, town or city, State)". We don't have an address yet - we just know we're moving to Los Angeles. What should we put here? Some people say to put "unknown", and some say that will get your form returned to you.

I guess I could put my sister's address, but she lives in the east coast and we're definitely not going to be staying with her.

Any help?

Also, are UK credit cards OK to use for the $420 payment? I think they are, but just want to double check.

Wish either instructions were clearer or it was easier to get ahold of help at the USCIS office.

Also does the form need a cover letter written, or just the "Checklist for Petition for Alien Spouse"?

Also, is this the place we include proof of UK residency like copies of tenancy agreements and council tax bills?

ALSO, should one send the packet via recorded or signed for delivery? Is that OK to do?

Thanks!!

A

You can put to be decided but you better have a place decided by the DS-260.

Yes this is the time to include evidence of a genuine relationship or bona fide marriage.

Here is the guide for DCF London. http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/DCF_London

I think an acceptable thing is: (not determined), Los Angeles, CA.

I also do not think you have to know the details for the consulate part either. The forms are one-size-fits-all and may not exactly fit your situation. You will have to show intent to re-establish domicile in the US, but London is not terribly strict about that. Working with an apartment locator and such shows you're looking. Or correspondence with places you are considering.

yes

A cover letter is never a requirement. It's just a little nicety people do. I think those probably get thrown out in the mail room and the real USCIS adjudicator never sees it.

Most USCs include proof they have a visa or or something that allows them to legally reside in the UK and qualify for DCF. You are a little different since you are also a UK citizen. Your British passport shows you qualify since you don't have a visa or ILR like most use to prove it. Nothing in the checklist says you need council tax or whatever for your current address.
