So my fiance is coming here next week on a K-1. He had his medical on April 14, but they refused to give him any vaccinations because they are technically not required for entry on a K-1. We plan to file AOS shortly after we get married in July, which will be well within the one year time frame of his overseas medical. My question is, if he gets his vaccinations at the local health department, does he still have to see a civil surgeon? The one I just talked to charges $250 cash to do the physical, which seems excessive since he won't technically need another physical so soon.

Any advice? So far I'm looking at almost $1,000 for vaccinations and another medical exam. :protest:

What vaccines is he looking to get? If they're not required for the K1 entry why does he want to get them?

Yes, you can get them at the health dept., BUT you will still need to see a civil surgeon to get them transcribed onto an I-693. Many will insist you need another medical too, but you don't. You can call around to try and find one that knows how to deal with a K-1 adjustment applicant. This is a long thread, but perhaps there is a civil surgeon listed in it that is near enough to you > http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/231026-civil-surgeons-who-dont-rip-you-off/page-16

No vaccinations are required for a K-1 visa entry. They are required for AOS.

Ooh, sorry. I was confused by "but they refused to give him any vaccinations because they are technically not required for entry on a K-1." I thought he was looking for something -other- than what was required.

My medical before entering the US was $300. He can go to the health department for vaccinations. $1000 is crazy!

Thank you guys. I called my local health department, and if he gets everything there it would be $563! I don't know where these health departments are that people say they can get them cheap!

You only need MMR, Tdap/TD, and varicella(or history of chickenpox). It is not flu season, so no need for the flu shot currently.

Likely cheaper than in a private physician's office or clinic. B-)
