Using a 'preparer' on the I-864 Affidavit of Support- any experience?

Hi all

My mother-in-law has been helping my father-in-law do his affidavit of support form.

He's perfectly capable of doing his own but she's more organised than he is... they've been divorced for several years so he's a lucky man having such a good friend, but anyway ;)

At the moment she's put herself down as the Preparer. Does anyone know if there are any implications from this? As I said they're not together so she's not part of the household or anything. I would've thought it's more used when someone isn't capable or doesn't have English as first language... does it muddy the waters at all having another person involved or is there no negative side to having someone else prepare the affidavit?

TIA!

No problem at all. It's no different than using Rapid Visa or other such companies - or like using the passport check and send service at the post office in the UK. It's an important document so if you want someone to go through it for you, why not?

I am my husband's preparer on all of the forms due to his dyslexia. I did the I-130, the G-325As and the I-864. Not a problem provided that you declare you have prepared the forms. The signature must be his, though.

I kinda think like you London Welsh and wouldn't expect her to put her name but can't think of a reason why it would hurt anything.
