I'd rather discuss why this happening. I see three issues -

1. The last two mayors have been too politically involved with policing.

2. Gangs are currently splintered increasing territorial wars

3. As a part of 2, high density public housing has been removed which has disrupted groups and increased territorial wars.

Just to keep it balanced, street fights aren't contained to the inner city but red neck country culture has them too.

I feel your pain.. truly do.

On the plus side, a redneck did recently make a nice contribution to me and my husband's bank account, due to their negligence.

The bad side is, I'll be in PT for a while, and have the most intense desire to get out of this town since I first arrived here.

Sometimes going back to the inner city sounds delightful.

I got you:

1. This keeps happening because CPD doesn't care about those areas. Chicago has been like this for a while now. Police in minority heavy neighborhoods typically are afflicted with the worse kind of DLOE. They don't care enough to actually stop the crimes happening right in front of them and when they do act, it's brutalizing or killing someone for a minor and even nothing wrong act. I've seen first hand fights and shoot outs that the cops don't even respond to. I've seen people stomped right in the middle of the street while the police station is literally right down the street. They sell drugs right on the corner, not even worried about the law since they drive right past them.

2. Gangs in those neighborhoods know that the above is true, so there's no fear when they start shooting up the place. I saw a video a few years ago(Cali, I believe) where some dudes started shooting in the street, in broad daylight. Not even worried about the police, they stood on the corner blasting off like no worries at all. Even sadder, a kid walked by and just made sure he wasn't hit and kept walking. Tells me he's used to this kind of behavior, and it's nothing new.

3. Poor housing leads to poor neighborhoods. Which leads to number 1 and 2 happening eventually.

No, but I know of a bunch of different 'wandering men' around town that I could imagine doing that very thing.

We don't go hiking in the woods without protection.
