Hello all, forgive me if this is a commonly asked question. I just want to make sure I am getting an answer for my specific case.

I am currently filling out the I-864 as the sponsor for my wife who is the immigrant. I currently don't make enough money to satisfy the requirements so I was going to have one of my parents as a joint sponsor.

My question is about the 'shared principle residence' requirement for the joint sponsor. My current situation is this:

  • I have been living abroad with my wife for a little over a year (Since April 2015)
  • In the United States I don't have a house/apartment, I live with my parents

Can I list my principle residence as my parents house even though I have been living abroad for awhile?

When me and my wife come to the United States we will be living with them until I secure a job in the USA.

Thank you very much for any help. This whole process is really stressful and VisaJourney has helped me tremendously!

If you need any more information I would be glad to add it.

Thanks again! :goofy:

Which forms are you getting your parents to use?

Also list your current legal address. If you are not in the USA you will need to provide some proof of reestablishing domicile.

Yes you do the I-864, parent that makes the most also an I-864 and the other parent an I-864a to that I-864.
