Dear VJ members:

I have a 2 year permanent resident card ( conditional ) and am planning to travel to Philippines for a week vacation late this year. Can i travel legally without hassles regarding my status? And if i can travel to PI, what are the necessarry requirements or documents to be presented specially in the Port of entry or in the airport or to bring so I can ENTERED BACK in the US? Additionally, my Philippine passport is still my MAIDEN name registered on it although am already married here in US and my GREENCARD family name is already changed (husband's family name of course ). My greencard will expire May 2, 2008.

I need your advises, comments or suggestions regarding this matter guys.....Since information from this site is very useful..... :help:

Thanks and good day to all :)

Yes you can, you book your flight tickets using the name in your foreign passport, and when you re-enter the USA you show them the green card. No hassles at all. It is recommended to have a photo copy of marriage certificate to show any name change.

i believe all you have to present in the port of entry is your greencard & unexpired passport..to be sure take with you your marriage contract ...just in case they questioned your different surnames..

Just one quick question.

When she got back, did she get any stamp in the passport or any document at all?

I got nothing. Is this common?

Thanks

We went to the Philippines last August (2006) and when we re-entered the US (POE: LAX), my and my son's passports were stamped with our date of re-entry. They didn't stamp my husband's and stepson's passports (USCs).

Hi. My husband has travelled on his conditional green card several times. More often than not, he is hassled when he comes in. He's made to go sit in the interview room, wait 30 minutes or so, and then answer basic questions. They aren't friendly. He answers everything politely, and is then on his way. Twice he missed his connecting flight.

Hopefully you'll not have difficulties.

At what airport is he flying in to? My husband travels very frequently and until the last time, never went to the secondary inspections. Last time, they pulled him aside, he answered very basic questions and then sent him on his way after wishing him a speedy 10-year card. I wonder if some POEs are more cranky than others.

My husband flew into Washington Dulles.

That *is* weird. I wonder if he doesn't have a name hit that has to clear every time. Not that he will ever be able to find out, but I think it is something specific to him rather than something to do with his status.
