Driver's License Extension during ROC (split post)

Hi guys.

I wondered if anyone could answer a question regarding my AZ drivers license.

We will be filing for ROC in the coming months, and I have seen that processing times can be anything up to 7 months right now (I realize this is ever changing and personal to case) however, my driving license will expire in December... If I have not completed the ROC, is there a way for me to extend my drivers license until it's processed? Does anyone know if Immigration provide us with an interim document to physically have, that would be sufficient for me to show at the licensing agency for them to extend my license here in AZ? I know it varies from state to state. When I first originally entered the U.S on the K1, the licensing agency said that they could give me a temporary license with my K1 expiration date - And I had to go back with my U.S ID in order to get it extended - And again, they only gave me a license for the validity of my GC.

If anyone else is/has experienced this, then any information/advice would be thankfully received.

I am not 100% sure about AZ but shortly after filing for ROC, you will receive a Notice Of Action extending your conditional residency for a year (from the day your GC expires) while your ROC is processed! That is the document you will need to show at your DMV to renew your DL! Alternatively you can also get the I-551 stamp in your passport from your local USCIS office and use that too (there's been some reports here on VJ of some DMVs not accepting these stamps)! Good luck to you and let us know how this works out!

Thank you so much for your reply! This is very helpful. Yes, the DMV don't seem to know much. Hopefully that notice of action will be enough for me to extend my license, and if not, I'll look into getting that stamp. Thanks again :)

The receipt letter we get after filing for I-751 ROC should be enough to extend the DL. I am in a different state and I went to the DMV here and asked and they said bring the extension letter and they can issue a renewed license. They even knew it was the I-797 document.

Speaking from CA - the NOA1 was fine - they barely looked at it and renewed for 2 years which was a surprise as the document validity is only 12 months. Perhaps they do know something about USCIS processing times
