Because as pointed out previously - the real goal of anarchy is decentralised government, not "no government". Somalia might be in a "state of anarchy", but its not a true anarchy because that state is the result of an another (underlying) system of government - tribal feudalism.

Anarchy is really about abolishing totalitarianism and totalitarian forms of government. The foundation of communism was driven by that philosophy - but obviously it ultimately failed and created just another hierarchical authoritarian society.

i just don't see it happening for long as into that vaccum of power will step some thug, warlord, or whatever and they'll transition right to another government style, one that no one (except those in that circle) will enjoy. it's human nature.

Kind of like what's happened since 9/11 ;) Generally speaking, the transition to a totalitarian state is an incremental process and by the time people at large get wise to the problem its too late.

Incidentally, would you choose fascism if you were:

1) Jewish

2) Black

3) Gay

4) A gypsy

Let's rephrase the question to: Would you rather live in a fascist society that persecuted all Christians or in an anarchist society? How would things change?

Mogadishu, Somalia is the closest thing to Anarchy. I would rather live in 1933 Germany thank you.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

yup. The trains will run on time with the fascists at least.

Here's one for you - Libertarianism is a form of anarchy...

I'm Libertarian....

I vote for anarchy. I have a reasonable cache of weapons and the skill to use them.

However, anarchy wouldn't last for long. Some civic-minded citizens would form a basic government at some point. Meanwhile, the best killer/thief/whatever would claim rule over the more "enthusiastic" sorts. Our anarchy would evolve into an us and them/Lord of the Flies/Lost/England & Australia (LOL!) type thing.

Facism, on the other hand, would be there until the people could gather the numbers and the courage to overthrow it.

Oooo! That changes things! I'm all for persecuting Christians any chance I get.

No but a distinction needs to be made that "a state of anarchy" resulting from the collapse of another form of government, differs somewhat from "anarchism" as a political philosophy. As mentioned previously - libertarian socialism...

If I give you my address, will you promise to come and get me?

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I think the only "defence" is pre-emptive - in opposing (rather than embracing) totalitarian forms of government. It is after all much easier to give away all your freedoms than to win them back..

isn't being anti-gun giving away one of those freedoms?
