Hard choice. No control or to much control. I guess as long as you were not the focus of the fascist governments hate I would choose fascist. Neither would be best.

Whats up with you lately Gupt? All this doom and gloom. Something on your mind?

I picked fascist for the same reason, Gary. I'd rather know what the rules are than have them change every second. Of course, that assumes the fascist government doesn't want to kill me because of my buttcrack thread.

Anarchism without a doubt. There's actually a lot more variety of political thought under the umbrella of anarchism than there is under fascism - which is generally predictable, discriminatory, authoritarian and enforced with violence.

Someone I know tells the story of how he encountered a man selling anarchist newspapers in Paris. John took one of the newspapers and walked away without paying. The man shouted, "HEY! You have to pay for that!"

John called back, "That, sir, was your first lesson in anarchy!"

This really is a Damned if you do, Damned if you don't type question.... I'm no fan of big-government power. Otoh, I want to be able to go about my business without fear of being assaulted, and would like to return home to find everything exactly where I left it. With no law-enforcement (government), I would have little confidence of doing those things. There are wholeneighborhoods in L.A., for example, which have become essentially under the control of gang thugs as a result of a lack of sufficient law-enforcement. With no law enforcement at all, it would be the law of the jungle everywhere.

Exactly, Scott. If faced by a situation where those are the only two choices, I'd imagine most people wouldn't worry too much about their freedom to think freely. They'd worry about safety first and fascism, if you follow the rules, may provide that. Anarchy definitely will not.

yup. The trains will run on time with the fascists at least.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Won't it? An anarchist society doesn't have to be like something out of Mad Max 2.

Part of the problem with modern democracies is that people don't seem to want to take the responsibility for ruling themselves or exercising any kind of political power. Don't you wonder why we we celebrate 30-40% of the eligible voting population turning out to vote? Isn't that a depressingly pathetic statistic - given the general apathy and "I can't change anything so why bother" that seems to infect non-voters. Extremism thrives amid apathy - so the perception of strictly ordered control - as promised by fascism probably appeals superficially to those who subconsciously want to be led - because they either don't want to take the responsibility themselves or simply don't know how. Its the "master/slave" dynamic at work...
