I got a letter from my mom that she had notarized for us to send in with our application but I'm not sure if it is going to hurt us more than help us and I would like your opinions on if we should include it or not. She actually asked us to write it for her and she would sign it, have it notarized and send it to us. When she emailed me a copy she said her lawyer had suggested she make some changes and this is what she sent back to us.....

Evidence in support of a bona fide marriage between Daughter, Petitioner, and Son-In-Law, Beneficiary.
I, Mother, am the mother of Daughter. My daughter married Son-in-law a year ago in May. Unfortunately, due to the finances, I was not able to attend the wedding in person but I was able to participate via Skype.
I have known of their relationship since a few weeks after it began, when they started to become serious. On May 5th, 2015 Daughter left America for Tunisia with the intention of marriage. They married on the 16th of May and have been living together in Tunisia since then.
According to Daughter, they are a good and loving couple and have started a lovely family together. Son-in-law reportedly treats Granddaughter, his step-daughter, as his own child and they had a little boy together, Grandson, on the 2nd of May 2016.
I am writing this affidavit for the purpose of informing the proper authorities that this appears to be a genuine and true marriage that was entered into for the purpose of creating a life together and because they truly love each other and not for the purpose of immigration or any other reason.
My contact information is above if you should have any questions or concerns and wish to contact me.
Sincerely,
Mother
The changes are words that she added (in red) and I'm not sure if we are just offended by the wording or if it actually makes it seem like she has little/no knowledge of our marriage, even though I talk to her a few times a week and we talk about my husband and family a lot. Honestly, it kind of makes both of us feel like she had doubts about us and his intentions in this marriage. Will whoever is in charge of our case get this same feeling in your opinion?

I wouldn't include it. Almost every mother is going to say that their daughter has a bona fide marriage and is not trying to cheat the immigration system. So in that sense it's meaningless. Affidavits carry little weight when you have heaps of other evidence. You live together. That's the greatest evidence of a genuine marriage.

We don't even live together and didn't include affidavits.

It doesn't matter how it's worded because affidavits carry little to zero weight the overall evaluation of a file. Instead, focus on sending evidence of your time spent together in-person, that is your strongest evidence.

Who gets a lawyer for a letter of support for their daughter??? Only in America. ?

Don't include the letter. In normal cases, affidavits carry no weight at all, as anyone can write a letter of support. This letter might even end up hurting you, as it seems really cold and like your mother has no knowledge about or involvement in your marriage and relationship at all.

Okay, we will skip it. Thank you :)

Although some embassies like to see Mom or Dad have some sort of affirmation of the relationship this generic letter doesn't do such. Your mother in law says nothing about "I approve the marriage" or "I'm in full support" and saying "reportedly", "appears to be" or "according to my daughter" she is merely reporting back 2nd hand information.

Your mother in law has never meet you do the affidavit really holds no weight. My husbands embassy Lagos affidavits do hold weight and some have had to get affidavits from parents or immediate family. But this does you no good. Leave it out.

I'm really peeved about the whole situation. I agree....why the heck would she need to consult a lawyer for this? She not only talks to me, including topics about my husband/marriage, but she also talks to my husband! She knows my daughter is totally in love with him as he treats her so well (she is almost ten). I was kind of surprised she didn't write that we "allegedly" have a son together lol. It really does seem like she has no knowledge of our relationship from reading her letter!! I know I shouldn't feel this way but she really hurt me, and especially my husband, with this. I agree that it seems like it could hurt our case but I just wanted to check if that was my personal feelings getting in the way of logic or if anyone else thought that same. Thanks for the opinions and wish us luck!

Lol, I know right! I can't even imagine! She is under a lot of stress right now and from talking to her the other day, she is not the same, I'm a little worried about her mental health. I'm hoping this is the reason that she is being such a ###### about this, and REALLY hoping she will get some help with her stress issues cause it's starting to effect her life a lot.

The letter is lawyer speak maybe. Your mother has tried! Really no reason at all to upset with her. She has tried to be factual -don't include it but on the personal level she has only tried to help. I read it as a third person and as someone who thinks lawyer like she tried to speak to immigration on lawyer like style - let it pass
