Hello!

We finally got an Infopass appointment for next week. I'm not sure how much they'll be able to help, but maybe it will give us some ideas as to how long we have to wait. I'll let you all know how it goes. :)

I'm glad for you that you got that appointment. It can't hurt and you never know, they may be able to give you some information or perhaps nudge someone to get it in gear!

I put a timeline in there for you. On 10/17 I called the wonderful people at the National Customer Service Center and I reported that my wife's case was outside of processing times. I received a letter a week later reporting that her Background Check is still pending...

I have since stopped checking the USCIS website, except for rare occasions. It feels wonderful. I have come to terms with the fact that this might take a very long time.

We just got back from our appointment and found some very...uh...interesting news.

So if you remember our case was transferred to California way back in April, took forever to be "pending" there, then was transferred to CSC again and pending sometime after that.

It turns out that the second transfer was to a storage facility. Yup, they never even finished processing our case and they sent it off to go rot somewhere. Thankfully we got in for an appointment so we could find this out, but...it's been sitting doing nothing for all these months. It's so frustrating.

The IO said she would tell them to pull it out of storage (I don't know where it is stored) and send it to the Chicago office. They will then look at it and see if they ever made a final decision on our case before sending it away or if they still hadn't reached a conclusion. If they have decided, she will get the things in order for my husband to get his green card. If not, they'll send us an appointment notice OR send it back to California to be reviewed.

Either way, she said we won't know for some time. :| She said it takes 3 weeks to get it out of storage and then we won't hear anything until he is approved or is asked to have an interview; however, she told us to come back in January if we haven't heard anything to find out what's going on. She also told us it was a good thing we came in or it would have sat there forever.

What a nightmare.

Are you KIDDING me???!!! Come on. Why do they need to retrieve your file from storage to know why it was sent there? They would have at least noted a status in the database before it was archived. At a minimum they would have had to note a reason for sending it there on the records transfer form. No wait. I retract that. My impression of USCIS is that they don't train their employees.

Logically thinking, they must have completed (approved) your case and closed the file. At that point it appears the ball was dropped since you never received the approval. (i.e. the clerk forgot to hit "approve and save" when they updated the database.)

Sheesh. How aggravating for you, CL. Thank God you went in.

We're really hoping that's the case. It wouldn't make sense for it to have been archived if they didn't make a final decision...right? :\ I hope that when they retrieve it they notice that it's completed and all they need to do is send the approval notice and green card. Oooh, I hope. That would be nice, right?

It would be even nicer if when they send the Green Card, our postal carrier decides to actually put it in our mailbox and not return it to USCIS. :)

OMG!!! Absolutely ridiculous! But we always knew things were nutty with USCIS. Thank goodness you pursued the InfoPass appointment.

I'm with you two though - I bet it was approved and archived. Somebody got the "Advance to Go" card and forgot to hand out your approval letter etc.

Well - here's hoping for some happy Christmas news!
