Applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Record Clearance (purpose: for travel abroad) from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

The spokesperson what-not at NBI constantly reminded us that:

NBI Clearance "travel abroad" if you're gonna use it to get a passport

NBI Clearance "Visa USA" if you're specifically going to travel and eventually migrate to US

But I dunno if they can be lenient, you can try your luck.

Also, make sure you get one that has an AKA, to be on the safe side.

that is fine for purpose, as long as you have the green colored version of the NBI all is good.

FOR MY K1 visa philippines

It was clearly stated in the US Embassy Manila requirements that purpose should be: for travel abroad.

I had that on my NBI clarance and on 2 K2s and NO problem getting our Visa.

AOS/ AED/ AP:

(California Service Center, Chula Vista, San Diego, CA)

Filed: Aug 29

Receipt Date: Sept 2

NOA 1 Date: Sept 12 (received text/email)

NOA 1 copy rcvd: Sept 16

Biometrics Notice Date: Sept 17, received Sept 24

Biometrics Sched: Oct 5

Successful walk-in: Sept 26

Oct 13- Case ready to be scheduled for interview

EAD/AP approved - Nov. 1/2 / Received EAD/ AP Combo Card- Nov. 15

50days from NOA1/ 64 days from receipt date.

January 30-  USCIS Ap update, Interview sched on March 3, 2017

Jan 31 - received USCIS letter/ Notice for interview

Yes the instructions letter does us the wording FOR TRAVEL ABROAD, but the hard reality is the embassy wants the GREEN form. Doesn't matter if it states FOR TRAVEL ABROAD or FOR U.S. VISA .... just so it ISN'T the YELLOW form

Yup, yellow is for local employment. Green is for travel abroad or visa purposes.

Hi! I need help because we are filing f2a for my husband and we're about to send AOS, etc. but i just found out that the intending immigrant should submit the "green form" from nbi clearance. What we have is the "yellow" one with VISA USA as purpose. Can we still use and submit that one or we need to get the green form? :(

You will need to get the GREEN version for the embassy for sure. As for NVC I don't know, but better safe than sorry. I just checked the processing guidelines for NVC and it does not state anything about TRAVEL ABROAD or otherwise, you should be fine with the version you have for NVC, but like said for the embassy - you must have the correct version. It is also stated you use photocopies for NVC.

After you collect your financial forms and supporting financial evidence, you and each family member immigrating with you to the United States should collect civil documents to support your visa application.

  • You must send photocopies of all required civil documents to the NVC.

POLICE REPORT: Applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Record Clearance for Travel Abroad Purposes from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Clearances should be in the applicant’s current name, birth certificate name, maiden name and any aliases or nicknames used, including different spellings you have used of those names. An official letter of explanation from the NBI is required for any notation of “No criminal record” or "No pending case”. For immigration purposes, an NBI clearance is valid for one (1) year from the date it was issued. The NBI website is http://www.nbi.gov.ph.
