Hey guys,

Getting a little annoyed at this stage. We meticulously put together the IV and AOS package for the NVC. We double triple quadruple checked everything was fine, because we are tired of waiting for this long process to end. All documents were included in those packages.

Today I call the NVC, they say they processed our file and noted that the birth certificate of the applicant is missing. Now I need to send it back in and wait another 30-40 days for processing. I told them that I am 99% sure we included the certificate: it was a photocopy of the long form certificate from the Ontario government (Canada). We even had it notarized by a justice of the peace just incase. Could notarizing it cause the problem? Should we have sent the short form instead?

I was told to resend the birth certificate... but they didn't give me any information on why the last copy was not acceptable. Gah!

Any thoughts?

NVC loose documents all the time. They actually misplaced our entire case file and didn't seriously look for it until we got our Senator involved. That's NVC for you. :( Just send them what they asked for and wait to hear from them.

I second mallafri76's comment, we sent our packet in the first week of January, I photocopied it all at the post office before mailing it. 75 days later they responded that we had not included my birth certificate or our marriage certificate, both of which I had included.

We express mailed new copies, and 45 days later they said we hadn't included my NZ police check, which goes directly to the embassy and the embassy had contacted me in December to say that they had it, and had forwarded a copy to the NVC. I contacted the embassy, and had them re-send it to the NVC, and finally got a case complete a couple of weeks ago.

Overall, they've delayed my case by more than 2 months by losing or misplacing documents that were sent to them (on top of the 75 days it took them to look at the packet in the first place).

I also agree with mallafri76. Don't notarize anything. make a copy exactly the way it is and send it in. I was like you and checked my documents 10 times over before sending it in, even put tabs at the bottom labeling what each thing was. they checklisted me 2 times. First time asking for half of the documents that were in the IV package!! I was ready to ream someone a new one. the second time I was sure I needed to fly to NH and sit with the agent to open his eyes and see the documents! Finally had to put it for Supervisor Review and got case complete in a week.
