Hi everybody, I worry too much I was going to my job today, I was a running late I had to call the cab company, this is not the first time I use a cab, the cab was my only choice to be there almost in time, the driver was a very young guy after when I wanted to pay , I had no cash I had to pay with my debit card, I was having my card in hand ready to slice it in the rear seat Cc machine , he gave me his hand and I saw his smart phone, I asked him why is the CC machine is not working? He said no I don't want to charge you the fee with the CCMACHINE and he sliced my card in his phone! I was not happy because this is the first time I see a driver use his phone, the he said click no tips, then sign, I was shocked, now I'm in my job, I'm very confused may be he has my bank card information now! They never charged me more with the CCMACHINE. What I'm supposed to do?Please help, I need advices, the young guy I know he was lying about something????

The cab driver don't want to pay through his company by the CC machine installed by the Cab company. It's very common now a days for any person/business to process CC transaction on smart phone (iPhone/Samsung).

You don't need to worry, just by safe side keep an eye on your CC transactions. You can set up text message/email of transaction from your CC account , if you not already set it up.

In NYC I saw so many people who sell cars out of their home (running car selling business out of home) using this swiping device to charge the credit cards. OR business like street vendors, vendors at seminars, chess competition (I saw), community fairs (Where vendors sell products).

Hope you got it now.

I think the cab driver's employer should be worried. It sounds to me as if he's picking up customers but not recording the trips, which would explain why the credit card machine in the cab wasn't working - it didn't know that there was a passenger in the cab, so it didn't know that there was any money owed.

If you're really worried, you can call your bank or credit card company, explain the situation and ask them to cancel your card and issue a new one. We had to do that for a lost card a few months ago and we had the new card within 48 hours, so yes, it's inconvenient, but not for long.

You might also want to call the cab company and let them know what happened. If he's picking up passengers without recording it, not only are they losing money, but depending on how they have their business set up, their insurance might refuse to pay out in the event of an accident.

Eighteen years in the US and I still don't understand Velveeta, TV ads for prescription drugs, only getting 2 weeks paid vacation, or why anyone believes anything they see on Fox "News".

Thank you for your answer, don't you think I should ask the cab company about the ligimity of the transaction he made? I worry because i think may be the company will charge me later for the ride!

I don't think the cab company knows about the ride. My guess would be that they sent him out after you called them, but he told them that when he arrived, you weren't there. They would find that believable because it does happen (people take a different cab, or get offered a ride while they're waiting) and if he only does it a couple of times a day, the company might not get suspicious.

Thank you this is what I was thinking about, I need to cancel the back card the same one he used because really I worry, and I feel I will be more better if I tell the cab company I need them to know I didn't cancel the trip and I need them to know he get paid, I don't want to worry anymore. Thanks

The cab company will not charge you, if that's what you're worried about. They'll probably fire the driver, because he's cheating them out of fares.

I just need to let them know, then I will cancel my card and request new one, I don't want him to be fired but I will feel good to ask about what's happened may be the company authorised them to use their phone ":" in his case I will not change my bank card

Many cabs are leased and the driver pays a monthly/hourly amount. The installed cc machine probably charges him a percentage of the transaction that is more than his cell phone square/swipe. He is just trying to get the most money into his hands. The cab company knows the miles on the cab so there really isn't any cheating on that if the cab isn't a monthly / hourly lease. Also they mostly have GPS installed so the company can dispatch the closest / faster to the next customer .

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Unless the cab driver is dispatched to pick up someone out in the suburbs and bring them downtown. Under those circumstances, they could claim that the customer was a no-show, and as they'd still have to make the return trip into the city, they could pick up and charge the customer without the cab company being any the wiser.
