Im been seeing a lot of cases spending about 5-6 months at NVC stage and the guides are pointing out that its half the time at USCIS. This is contradictory information and I wanted to know what the status is now. Nebraska is taking about 4 month so I should expect another 5 months at NVC stage?

Mine took 4 1/2 months at Nebraska and 1 1/2 months at NVC. A lot of it seems to be preparation, petitioner's country and plain old luck.

Plainly put, there are many small steps in the NVC process where things can go wrong. If they do not go wrong, it should be fairly quick. If any one, or a combination of them, do go wrong, it can significantly increase the time spent, especially with regards to a checklist.

It helps to have everything ready beforehand and to call NVC daily to get status updates as soon as possible in order to get to the next step(s) as quickly as possible.

Make sure to fill out your timeline, it really helps when you have questions. But yes, the time varies at all departments. In my case, the USCIS phase took 6 months. The NVC phase took about 3 months. No checklists or RFEs. Make sure to double check everything before you send it in. RFEs can seriously delay your case. But as you can see, even though I never got RFEs my case still took slightly longer than the average due to backlogs.

You're lucky if you were at Nebraska for only 4 months. They took almost 6 months exact to approve my petition. As for NVC, it's been a total of 2.5 months from the moment they received my petition to case complete....and that's with 3 checklists and being put into Supervisor Review.

NVC will go as quickly as you want it to...to a point. Meaning, get all of your documents ready so when it's time to submit it, you're not wasting time gathering or requesting documents. that is what delays the NVC stage. In my case, I had everything in order, but had the bad luck of whichever agent was looking at my file was not looking at all the documents carefully and kept sending me a checklist. I finally got a hold of a Supervisor that knew what she was doing and the rules and was able to issue a case complete. If NVC didn't mess up, I would have been done with NVC in 2 months.

just remember every case is different. don't compare yours to someone else's.

Nebraska has started to speed up. There is a new processing centre in Potomac now so that could be easing the workload.

For the USCIS stage the timing is completely out of our hands. But with good preparation and organisation you can get through the NVC stage much quicker than 5 months. Some people deliberately delay the NVC stage. Maybe they are changing jobs or moving to a new area. Maybe they are struggling to find a joint sponsor.
