K1 Medical Jabs/shots/immunisations

I have absolutely no idea what jabs I have had, what I have been immunised against, etc.

I have an appointment with a nurse tomorrow and I was going to ask them to jab me with whatever vaccinations I need - I have the list required for the US medical.

Has anyone done this before, and if so what did they say to the nurse/GP?

I am under the impression that if I wait for the actual medical and I need any shots, I will be charged for these.

With all the expenses of the K1 as it is I wanted to make sure I was up to date with jabs beforehand.

Some NHS practices give them free and some charge. Get them before your medical and you won't have to pay a civil surgeon in the US to fill out a new sheet because your visa medical will already have them signed off on.

The whole list is long. Most are for children. You only need those appropriate for adults.

• Td or Tdap - Tetanus/diptheria/pertussis or get DT, DTP or DtaP and it will be accepted for AOS also. The latest shot must be no longer than 10 years ago or you need a booster. If you have a record of receiving pertussis, then the Td is okay for the booster.
• MMR - (if born in 1957 or later)-Mumps/measles/rubella. It's two doses in your life, but if you get the first dose, and 4 weeks haven't passed by your medical, they will waive the second dose for "insufficient time interval". If you only had one dose as a child, get a second one before the medical.
• Varicella - Not routinely given in the UK . A history of having chickenpox excuses you from the shot. They take your word for it at the visa medical exam, but you have to remember to tell them to mark your form for chickenpox.
• Influenza Required during flu season only, October 1 through March 31. This was a new recommendation dated November 2010 for all ages over 6 months. Older lists will say flu shots for over age 50. It changed.

If you are 19 or older, you are basically looking to be complete on Tetanus/diptheria/pertussis (one dated since 2006)

And mumps/measles/rubella (two jabs in your life.). It is not flu season now and you are going to tell them you had chickenpox, so those are waived and marked on your form for waiver.

^ what Nich-Nick said. My fiance also did not have any records of previous vaccinations so they gave him MMR and Td. He had chicken pox as a child, and it isn't flu season. This was done at the medical in Dublin, and they did charge a small fee for it.

I would get the MMR and Tdap at your nurse's appointment tomorrow if they have the vaccines available.
