They're inconsistent and biased and the "owner" of this website doesn't care. One time I got thread banned for reporting rude comments. It's kind of like the mafia and I reported someone who's "untouchable".

That's your perception. In our threads that moderators frequent, rule violations are not overlooked, much to my vexation.

Rude comments are not against the TOS and for the hyper sensitive, much could be considered rude.

From the TOS: Make comments in a Post either direct or implied toward another member that are purposely designed to upset, antagonize, make fun of, belittle, harass, insult, or otherwise instigate an argument that takes away from the personal enjoyment of the Service by other users.

And rude might not include those. If every potentially rude comment were removed from the forum, all you would have left would be a bunch of cheerleading posts.

Doing what I suspect you would want is treating adult posters like Kindergarteners and a great way to piss off a lot of people.

The posts I have reported that I got thread banned for where far worse than just rude. You're entitled to your opinion but unless you've seen the comments I am referring to, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Then, why not share them with us? If they are still on VJ because of unfair practices they should be readily available for sharing.

Otherwise, vaguejourneying is just, well, vague.

Heck I've even reported my own posts when I've started bickering and put the post off topic. Or when I respond to a post that I thought was from the OP but was in fact a thread hijack. I know when I mess up...

Check out the number one post on the popular by votes. Already been mentioned here. I think the majority of people would consider this rude.

As for being treated like kindergarteners... Even little children are taught not to be rude or swear! This is not the PC brigade in action here. Nobody is hypersensitive to comments people make... The topic is about the consistency of how comments / posts are monitored and moderated.

I personally am not hunting down moderators just want to ensure fairness in the approach. I would certainly hope nobody would turn a blind eye to "favourite posters"

I don't find that top rated post rude.

I also don't find cursing offensive. Little children where I live curse and are pretty honest. I think instead of Minnesota nice, it should be Minnesota blatantly honest with a wonderful garnish of swearing.

P.S. You kind of sound like the P.C. brigade with your issues with that top rated post. A hell of a lot of people liked that post, so much so that it might be safe to say that the majority on VJ don't have an issue with it.

As to what is moderated out instead of that, that I can't speak to. My comments were addressing more of the PC brigade rather than issues in moderating. There are some who are expecting grown adults to act like care bears and that is unrealistic.

If anything there is an issue of overmodding. I don't really get it, but I suppose they need something to do.

Poor Ontarkie, who I love, removed my douche image the other day for circumventing the word filter. Word filter allows the word douche. Concrete example.

I agree that less modding might be nice if that is what you were going for.

None I'm not advocating the deletion of that post at all. I'm using it as an example of what moderators allow.

Now you obviously don't think there is an issue with the language used (and just because you say "eff off" instead of using the actual wording doesn't absolve it from what the true "message" being related is.

I think if you were to walk up to anyone on the street and use that language a majority of people would think it rude (in my opinion) you obviously have a higher toleration to such behaviour.

In any case you are now hijacking the thread talking about 'pc matters' now as I started the thread discussing consistency of moderation. Not what content alone constitutes a merit for deleting posts but thanks for your opinions as the point of debates is to see all angles of an arguement.

1. Just look at the post currently with the highest rating (71 I think). Really?? This you allow? Just look at how the person signed off?

2. talk amongst yourself and ensure consistency!!

3. Luckily I have only crossed the line once so far and duly agreed with the action haha.

1. No one has pointed out yet that this example is nearly 3 years old, the thread was started by a new member in his first and only post on the site (often signifying a troll), and the thread was locked in 3.5 hours.

2. Might this already happen daily, and might seemingly arbitrary decisions be a matter of consensus instead?

3. Keep up the appropriate posting behavior. The VisaJourney Terms of Service are found here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/terms

Yes I did remove it, I could have sworn it was already on the blocked list :content: It is listed to be now :diablo:

The reason children are taught not to swear is because children are unable to know when such a thing is inappropriate in certain social settings.

Again please point out examples where the modding has been inconsistent. Linking examples is the only way our team of mods can understand exactly what the issue is. Also keep in mind that there are limited mods, a few extra organizers, and ONE admin for a site this large. Thats why they rely on everyone's reported posts. But this site will never be, and really no site will ever be, full of happiness and joy. This is the written word and as such can be taken in a manner that could be deemed offensive when none is meant.
