Inconsistent Moderating

Yes I may incur the wrath of the moderation team but who cares!

Increasingly I have seen moderators deleting messages that are not offensive or malicious. Yes it's a matter of opinion and yes we need moderators on the site in case things get nasty.

However I don't think there is consistency in how individual moderators monitor forums. I am annoyed at the constant deletions of "off topic" reasons bring quoted. Conversations and topics evolve and as such freedom should be allowed for that to happen.

I really could go on but don't want other than to say talk amongst yourself and ensure consistency!!

Just look at the post currently with the highest rating (71 I think). Really?? This you allow? Just look at how the person signed off? Yet comments offering humour are deleted because they are "off topic".

Carry on with your duties but in my opinion... Could do better. Also as you all state language is to be watched... Just be careful in your explanations of why topics are closed, moved, comments deleted as you have zero rights to be rude either. It's not one rule for one and one for another ok. Just saying some of these are displeasing to see from members we are supposed to trust are non judgemental abd are working for the betterment of the site.

Luckily I have only crossed the line once so far and duly agreed with the action haha.

Actually I personally find the moderators to be very consistent. They cannot catch each and every post and rely on our reports. Going off topic is against TOS. That's the rules of the forum.

Ok against the terms it may be, then implement the rules consistently. I haven't been on the site that long but even in my short time here I have the feeling that lately there are moderations taking place that are, shall we say a little free wheeling.

You are not getting an arguement from me that there shouldn't be moderation. You have to be able to contain the content as this isn't a Facebook site where anything goes!

Good point on reporting as we should all police the forum collectively anyway.

However there have been topics that groups of individuals have wanted to discuss more salacious content shall we say, not connected to the reason for a post, all under the guise "tell us more so we can best advise", where were the moderators there? The topic went on and on badgering for more juicy titbits,

Moderators do float around too don't they? I don't believe they only take action based upon reported comments.

Moderation relies mostly on member reports. Once a thread is in their sights they tend to keep eyes on it but the mods do not moderate every thread because sometimes they're just not brought to their attention. So if no one reports it, there is no moderation generally speaking.

The rules are implemented pretty consistently when they're notified about them. exception being maybe the cehst forum.

The answer that you'll likely get is that they can't catch every post as I mentioned. There are mods that do participate and those that I've seen do nothing but moderate.

Do people push the limits? Yeah, absolutely, I know that I do at times. I can't speak for everyone obviously but I know that if I see something questionable I usually report it. Some people see it as tattling, but it does help them I. The end. There's times what you'll see a thread that goes down from about 4 pages to 1-2 because of argumentative posts. Sometimes the baiting is necessary to get to the issue.

All fair comments... Just wanted to post my opinion. One thing I loathe is elitist thinking and I was getting a sense of that happening judged on what I was witnessing.

I have no issue being corrected on the matter however I still believe that moderators alsohave a duty in how they respond to reports and conduct themselves.

Are some reported messages ever declined from being moderated and if so does the original person reporting it get told why no action is being taken?

I always have when they've decided not to moderate something.

I also occasionally get a message when I do report things.

They're inconsistent and biased and the "owner" of this website doesn't care. One time I got thread banned for reporting rude comments. It's kind of like the mafia and I reported someone who's "untouchable".
