Hey VJ!

I'm from Canada and entered the U.S. on a K1-visa back July 2015. I was married in August and filed my AOS package back in October. I received my EAD card in Jan 2016 and went back home (Canada) for a month. I returned to the U.S. in March and basically started working immediately after getting back. Although I hear many K-1 applicants don't get interviews when adjusting status but I still want to be on the safe side just in case. My concern is that my wife and I don't have any joint assets. At the moment we are staying by family friends. She doesn't have medical insurance to even add me on to, she doesn't have a license so she can't add me to that either and all utilities etc. in the house hold aren't in our names. Since I've started working all we have done is opened a joint bank account and applied for a credit card in both of our names. We are looking to get our own place soon locally or possibly looking to move out of state, hence why things just seem all over the place. I just don't know what to do right now because we have little proof of anything due to her being in a rough spot trying to get her life in order and me literally just starting to build my foundation/credit in the U.S. Are there little things I can do on my end to build more proof of are current life after marriage? Answers would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

You can set up a medical power of attorney or create wills. You can have the friends you live with write a statement attesting to the fact you live with them and they pay utilies. You can include a wedding invitation, mail showing both you and your wife's name at the same address, statements from family about your relationship, mutual cell phone bill, save your bank statements and credit card statements. A little seems to go a long way during AOS. They don't have as high an expectation of co-mingling at AOS as they do at ROC. So take what you have and be honest why you only have what you have. I wouldn't be too worried. We got an interview waiver and only submitted a bank statement and one electric bill.
