As I understand, there may be a chance when the time comes for the AOS and/or green card for fiancee, the USCIS will come to interview your neighbors, etc. Problem is, no one knows me (literally) in this apartment complex filled with other humans, nor am I going to let people. I make sure, with certain methods, no one knows who I am, what I drive, which apartment I live in. Main office not know I have someone living with me because it will bump rent up so much, we will be on the streets shortly thereafter. So, people here will complain and call the police because it is my fault, the fault of someone no one knows, to have people knocking on their doors, disturbing the peace and privacy of other people, asking questions about me who know one knows. Then if they intrude to the main office, they will bump rent (and them already doing their annual increasing it in Sept. is deadly enough).

Finding another safe, cheap please to rent is going to be near impossible, because doing so is how I ended up in this place (single) when I needed to move out of my other place.

Living any place else is not a financial option at this moment, staying here neither is if they keep raising my rent. This place is not worth the cost now, let alone when they find another human lives here. Once strangers' privacy is bothered, yes, here they will call police on me disrupting their privacy.

Anyone else experience any of this? What did you do? How you prevent such issues of the peace being disturbed?

Looking for how people handled their situations.

Thanks.

Not much of what you're saying makes much sense. You say you came here on a K1 and you're concerned about your AOS but then you mention moving somewhere as single and it sounds like you have a roommate you shouldn't really have living at your place and you bug your neighbors... That's what your story sounds like.

Can you clarify your situation? Do you have any red flags (apart from sounding like you're doing something you shouldn't)? Home visits are rare but they do happen.

Sorry... But all that is part of the game. no way to avoid it... (except leaving the country and abandoning your residency) if USCIS believes it needs to do further investigation. They will visit and ask any one they wish.

USCIS would come to YOUR home not the neighbors and take a look around to see if you are both living at the same address.
Overseas it is more common to have field investigations in the neighborhood but for USCIS that isn't usually the case here for AOS.
This happens rarely and only with red flags. They go through closets, count tooth brushes and check dirty laundry etc.
They may ask questions at the rental office but they may not.

You do need to think ahead to ROC and have co mingled evidence to submit, both names on the lease, joint bank accounts,

credit cards and lots more that shows you have a bona fide marriage.
Read the guides for evidence. That should be your focus, not worrying about USCIS

knocking on your neighbors door.

I don't think you have a lot to worry about USCIS home visit, it happens but I think very, very rarely so there is a small chance. What you seriously have to worry about is how're you going to prove to USCIS that you and your spouse both live at the same place? If I remember right, as a part of ROC you should prove that you had been living together, and proof can be rental leases in both names, utility bills with the same address in both names etc. If your spouse is not even on the lease or any other legal papers showing that you both reside at the same address I feel you can have a hard time with ROC package trying to prove to USCIS that you live together since marriage. Photos or Christmas cards will not work out for that reason.

If you're afraid of the USCIS sending investigators to your house, you have more problems than a possible rent increase. If you're a K1 and you've not even AOS'd yet, how on earth would your neighbors know much, if anything about your fiancee?

It's not the norm in the U.S. for people to go around their neighborhoods telling everyone all about themselves and their situation. Why would USCIS waste the time to do that, unless you already present some big red flags?

Sorry about the increase in rent, but you're going to have to add your fiancee/wife to your apartment lease. It's a big thing for your AOS.

My wife and I had no problem meeting neighbors in our apartment complex. We have some good friendships as a result. Others might be more introverted and appreciate their privacy more.

I guess it is safe to say that if the USCIS investigator doesn't end up in your apartment office and make few inquiries before reaching you, you might slip under. But if the investigator starts the questioning from the leasing office, your apartment could not only jack up your rent but you could be sued for retroactive rent.

You might want to add her name on your mailbox, I've heard USPS sometimes won't leave mail if the recipient's name is not there. You can check with your local post office also.

I think is happens in certain places. I sent a package to a friend in MA but since her name wasn't on the mailbox, it was returned.

But at all the apartments I've lived in, I have received mails for previous tenants (looks like those mails were delivered based on address not the name).

This happened to be when I first moved into my apartment. Took forever to get the old tenant's name changed to mine and I missed a lot of mail in the process.

OP, as others have mentioned, not adding your wife to your lease may very likely cause issues for you down the line when you ROC. You will need to prove that you have a legitimate relationship and living together is a pretty important part of that. Rent increases are unfortunate, but are something everyone needs to plan for when they have someone move in with them..
