This letter states that the Alien Fiance from the UK am not to make any travel plans until the visa is granted, are there any consequences that might be met in having my fiance visit me in the US while this process is still ongoing? Will there be a stamp against her visiting on her passport, would she not be granted entry on flying out?

Health Concerns

Concerns with gathering all the right documents in preparation for the Embassy Interview. Health wise my fiance has has a history in relation to anxiety and depression, currently she is no longer on any medication and have been for several months now. Does she need to have a letter from her GP stating that 'I am not a threat to anyone or myself'? I've read on many of the posts here that this is something people have asked their doctors to write when they have had difficulties in the mental health side of things. Is this a vital letter that I must take with me to the Embassy medical examination and interview? she has have spoken with her doctor and she highlighted that handing over this letter might present a flag to them as it shows past difficulties I've had with mental health in the past.

Vaccinations and Immunization records.

My fiance has a complete record of her immunization records from her doctor, should she have a stamp of some sort or note specifically from the doctors to go along with these? As currently its just a piece of paper with a list of all vaccinations had and the dates they were given, with no cover letter or identification that this has been given to me from my doctors surgery.

She is currently working with a private clinic (scotland UK) to have the remaining vaccinations done that are listed on the medical examination document found on Visa Journey being:

  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Influenza Type B (HIBS)
  • Mumps
  • Measles
  • Rubella
  • Polio
  • Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids
  • Pertussis
  • Haemophilus
  • Meningococcal
  • Pneumococcal
  • Varicella

Given her immunization records, they only require a few boosters and few shots. Are there any additional vaccinations not listed here that she may need to ask for? As I believe there is additional vaccination required at the Adjustment of Status stage and I would like to have all vaccinations taken care of at this stage going forward with one less thing to worry about.

Why not have them done any jabs she is missing by the NHS?

Many people visit without issue, I did. VJ has an extremely long thread on the subject.

She only needs Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) MMR, (measles, mumps, rubella) and varicella (chicken pox)... influenza in season. The rest are not age appropriate.

Travel

The travel plans they mention she should not make are plans to MOVE to the US because there is no guarantee how long the visa will take. Visits fine.

Depression

The questionnaires she will fill out asks about depression. If she answers yes, then they will want to know more from a doctor who has known her longer than they have, which is maybe five minutes. Here's an example of what they want to know from Sunya and Tim

My fiance indicated he had battled some depression 3 years ago while going thru the separation from his wife. He took with him a letter from his doctor but Knightsbridge asked for this additional information. Just thought I would share so that you know all they will be asking. Hope this helps. He was given a form by the doctor and asked to have his doctor provide the following information. Please provide a brief medical report outlining:

  • Diagnosis
  • Investigations - if any
  • Treatment
  • Duration of treatments and illness
  • Any prior or subsequent mental health illness
  • Any incidents of self-harm, harm to others or suicidal attempts
  • Prognosis and your opinion of current mental state

Shots

The list is long. Most are for children. She only needs those appropriate for adults.

  • Td or Tdap - Tetanus/diptheria/pertussis or get DT, DTP or DtaP and it will be accepted for AOS also. The latest shot must be no longer than 10 years ago or you need a booster. If you have a record of receiving pertussis, then the Td is okay for the booster.
  • MMR - (if born in 1957 or later)-Mumps/measles/rubella. It's two doses in your life, but if you get the first dose, and 4 weeks haven't passed by your medical, they will waive the second dose for "insufficient time interval". If you only had one dose as a child, get a second one before the medical.
  • Varicella - Not routinely given in the UK . A history of having chickenpox excuses you from the shot. They take your word for it at the visa medical exam.
  • Influenza Required during flu season only, October 1 through March 31. This was a new recommendation dated November 2010 for all ages over 6 months. Older lists will say flu shots for over age 50. It changed.

Thanks for the response Nick! It's always appreciated and helps tremendously! Have you ever heard of people getting stopped at the border when visiting their SO while waiting for their Visa to process? I wouldn't imagine this happens often almost zero or if you had a very specific reason to be stopped.

I asked CBP twice if they had visa petition information on their computers and they told me no. There are so many CBP officers around the country that what one suspects is a person trying to enter illegally or to stay illegally would be different than what another officer thinks. Yes people are turned away, but it's not just people who are petition beneficiaries. All kinds can be refused if the officer thinks they may not return to their home country or will seek to work without authorization or they have already spent too many months in the US in a year's time. Some people have no job, no school, no money, and visit for 90 days, leave for a few weeks and come back for 90 more days. At some point an officer is going to say they have been enough. If you look like a tourist, act like a tourist, and come for short visits because you have a life in the UK, then likely no problem.

People get stopped all the time but not because they have an ongoing petition. The CBP cannot see that deeply unless they suspect something and do a lot of searching. It doesn't come up on your passport unless you've already been flagged before. If they stop you, they have a reason, even if people dont think they do.

In reality they're the last line of defense against terrorists and illegal aliens actually entering the country. They're doing their job.
