Jersey City gang member gets extended 15-year prison term for gun charge

A 30-year-old Jersey City man convicted of a weapons offense was sentenced to 15 years in prison today due to his extensive criminal record, which includes nine criminal convictions.

"Guns on the streets is simply not OK," Hudson County Superior Court Judge Mitzy Galis-Menendez told Hanif Hopson, of Salem Lafayette Court, before sentencing him.

In pronouncing her sentence, Galis-Menendez said there was a need to deter others from committing similar offenses, the extent of his record, the seriousness of his offenses and the need to deter him. She noted that when last released from prison, Hopson was arrested again only months later.

If liberals were serious about felons owning guns on the street they should give him 30 years without parole .

The fact is that the article didn't say 9 felony convictions, it said 9 criminal convictions. I think you two are going down a slippery slope here. Either guns are great for personal safety or they are not. And either the 2nd Amendment is sacred or it's not.

Five bucks says that everyone reading this thread knows exactly why Lost is not happy about the gang member only getting 15 years. Hint: It is not about public safety.

The fact is that the article didn't say 9 felony convictions, it said 9 criminal convictions. I think you two are going down a slippery slope here. Either guns are great for personal safety or they are not. And either the 2nd Amendment is sacred or it's not.
