I wouldn't say religion played a big part in our household, I grew up in South Asia and my mother admired hinduism/buddhism, even though she grew up Orthodox. I don't think it is much of a religious issue as much as it is Eastern European stereotypes I suppose. She's entirely convinced that Romania is a country full of gypsies. I understand that there is such an ethnic group in Romania as there are in other parts of Europe and even the way they're treated in Romania is worse than other countries. I've been to Bucharest myself to visit my fiance. Her family + friends were very nice to me.

Yeah I've always had good relationships with Romanians. It's odd your family has this stereotype. But I think my French fiance has a similar one to Romanians (thinking that they're all gypsies).

Also, I'm in a similar situation as you are. D: My fiance's family is against our marriage. But in regards to the interview process as someone else had stated, I think it won't be a big deal for us because we're not from countries where India or Pakistan or something where something like family acceptance of a marriage is super important. I think in most Eastern European households the in-laws hate each other. lol. So I'm used to it. Plus in 90 day fiance one couple had a mother who was against the marriage and they did fine. So #yolo.

The prejudices people have for others never ceases to amaze me. I see it more as an uneducated illiterate assumption in regards to

Sometimes these are ignorant views that are pushed onto people, might not be easy to let go.

Everyone has a choice to accept or reject ignorant views. I also was brought up with prejudiced views and found

it extremely easy to recognize it for what it is....ignorance. It's a simple choice. I don't blame OP for detaching from

his family because they are disrespecting his choice. I have no tolerance for this and you can't fix stupid unless stupid wants to

be fixed.

Wishing the OP the best and that things will improve in the future. If the question came up and I would be the one answering, that family

(except dad) would all look like a bunch of fools to the CO. I guarantee it and I would not pussyfoot around the issue either.
