So, I've posted a few times, and replied a few times...maybe it's about time I say hello :goofy:

My wife and I met online shortly after I asked my first wife for a divorce, back in Spring 2013.

We dated for about a year and a half, and were married in September 2014, at my house here in Canada, with only immediate family there.

We actually weighed the pros and cons of staying here, or moving to the US.

While my wife would have been miserable here, I would move anywhere for her. So started my CR1 journey!

I enlisted the help of my mom's Immigration Lawyer (based in Florida), as she recently married a Floridian.

Using my Lawyer was the best decision I've made though this whole process. I would SO recommend him anyone in Canada needs a Lawyer to get to the US!!

My process started early 2015, and took just under a year. Surprisingly short, if you ask me.

If I had petitioned for my wife to come to Canada, we'd be looking at 2 years AT LEAST, for her PR to work.

So now I'm selling my house and preparing to move to Utah, where we have friends (who are basically family) who will let us stay until we're settled.

I think the hardest part of moving to Utah, will be getting a job. Being in the IT industry, it should be easier than I'm thinking it will be, but you never know.

I just paid my Immigrant Fee this morning, so it'll be more than ready for when we drive across the border (Pembina crossing).

There you have it. My (recent) life story condensed into approximately 20 lines! LOL

.....anyone want to buy a house in Winnipeg?

Sounds like you had all your ducks in a row! Ok at this point, start saving/compiling documents so your wife will have just an easy a time when Removal of Conditions time rolls around:

Be prepared to document your marriage and your co-mingling of finances from the point of your marriage in Sept 2014 onward. Stuff like bank statements, leases together, insurance together, cars you have bought together, joint savings accounts, joint credit cards, things with both your names on them. Holiday cards mailed to you both (save the envelope AND the card). Photos of vacation, and receipts/boarding passes for travel for vacations. Get a living will set up for each other.

If you start doing that now it won't be so much of a pain later on; it's awful to have to scramble through your things (especially when you're moving house) to find all this paper, so just start a file and fill it up.

It ain't over yet...welcome to VJ! :D

.....anyone want to buy a house in Winnipeg?

I was born in and lived in North Dakota during part of my childhood, so Winnipeg wouldn't be an entirely foreign climate. However, I would never survive to complete the transaction. Mrs Russ&Caro is from a tropical climate and would shoot me dead if she found out I spent $1 trying to buy a house in Winnipeg.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm the one who got the Visa.....my wife is a USC....but we've got all our proof in a special place, so it's handy when we need it!

Good idea for the living will though!

I'm nervous about selling my house and packing the U-Haul, but excited at the same time.

Oh, I know it's FAR from over.

He's in Tallahassee.

Great guy. I'd recommend him to anyone.

My mom used him as she lives in Bonifay with her husband.

Smooth as butter to get her in, and same for me.

If he doesn't know his stuff, he learns it quickly enough!

Thanks for the nice introduction. You'll do just fine here.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
