**Urgent Please help** Tax return for sponsor who is unemployed

Sorry to have added a new worry....certainly not my intention. I think the consulate is reviewing everything carefully in advance and that once you have submitted the additional information they are asking for, the interview will go smoothly. A lot of what they are doing is done by the NAtional Visa Center for cases that are not filed via Direct Consular Processing, as yours was. NVC reviews the documents and lets you know if you need something else; the consulate is doing that for you instead.

As I said, a joint sponsor who meets the financial requirements is usually sufficient, but they do need to consider the other factors. I think you should be fine once they get the last thing they asked you for. The sponsorship plus the housing shows a real commitment from your in-laws, IMO.

And, no sponsorship doesn't work the way you describe. If a legal resident accesses progams which they are not supposed to use (and it doesn't have to be fraudulently -- in can be done innocently by the resident and unknowningly by the program office that approved it since they oftne know very little about what LPRs can receive), and the program then reports that to the federal government -- usually for remibursement -- the federal governemnt would then seek recovery of the costs from the sponsor. The sponsor does not pay anything up-front. In fact, it is rare for the US government to seek reimbursement at all.

Oh don't worry at all about worrying me. I am the type that wants to know everything in advance anyway.
Better to be prepared!!

As I've said, personally I have no problem giving them whatever paper they want and then some. It is my sponsor who didn't want to involve his wife in this and told me to fight it
But let's see what they say in the next few days. Crossing fingers they accept!!!

They now want 2016 tax forms/transcripts now even if you filed before the April tax dead line---I had the same problem, had to bring to interview.

If your joint sponsor is married or files as head of household he needs to have I-864a's to show what portion of the income is his, or that the others agree that their share can be used.

I would think so. I mean how can he have tax returns for year 2016 when we are still in May? :)

** Update **

Well we just got an e-mail asking for MORE things **which we have already submitted**.
They are asking for an original affidavit of support (we already have done that!!!!!), copies of the passports (they have that too!!!), the tax return of 2015 (ok this was just filled so ok), and the I-864A which they just told us they don't need!!!

What is going on here??????? They HAVE ALL OF THESE PAPERS! (minus the tax return)
It's like they do not want to schedule us for an appointment!!!!

** Another Update **

The joint sponsor contacted his lawyer who told him, we are probably correct in that they do not need the I-864A BUT it is their turf and we cannot win. So he decided to provide us with everything they are asking.
We mailed the Consulate, they thanked us for our cooperation, they are waiting for the documents and we shall see what happens.
