My husband got his 2 yes conditional gc through marriage, I found out he married just for the card, I filed for divorce. I'm so hurt and heartbroken that someone can do this to a person. Will he still get his 10yrs permanent resident gc if he files the 1-75. My husband is from Jamaica..

I'm so terrified that I'm on the hook because of the 1-184, it seems like the immigration laws does not protect us as citizens but it protects the non immigrant more

You're on the hook for the I-864.

Remember you vouched for him and asked the US to give him a visa and a green card. Look at all the people who are mad that their spouses have to go through background checks. You had the most knowledge about the intending immigrant and was in the best position to protect yourself.

Oh now you are blaming US immigration laws. If the officer at the embassy had denied his visa after sensing some fraud, you would've be the one here boasting about your proud genuine marriage and talking how bad those corrupt officers are. Your fellow Jamaicans are already suffering because of the cases like yours.

US law is what it needs to be. You brought him here, you should pay for it.

I have to agree. You knew the risks when you signed the I-864. There was always the possibility that you and your husband would divorce. I think US immigration laws protect citizens just fine. Why would USCIS know/care why your marriage fell apart? Do you know how many spurned spouses cry "Fraud!" when things are not working out? Or how many dangle the "permanent residency carrot stick" in their spouse's face as a means to try to control them? Or how many US citizens accept thousands of dollars in exchange for marrying a foreign national? (When I lived in NYC, a US citizen propositioned me back in 2003. The "deal" would have been that I pay him $10,000+ and he would marry me. I could not back away from him fast enough). How do they know you didn't receive a payoff from your spouse?

I know I have no idea what went on in your marriage but neither does USCIS. You signed the I-864, you brought your spouse here, you secured a green card for him. Why shouldn't you be held accountable? When I was a non-resident alien on an F-1 visa I paid taxes toward public goods and services I could never benefit from. Please don't ask the rest of us to further subsidize your error.

Not beating up on you young lady , but its spelt out B4 you sign, if he's no good move on,

USC couples break up at times being used in many other ways, he will most likely get his GC

but do not blame the US because I have seen many having meltdowns, rants & hyperventilate

about CEAC not to mention jumping through hoops to get spouses here, YOU accepted that

responsibility , but look B4 leaping....forget him ...you will find another man that's not a cad.

best wishes

Sure it does. Don't vouch for a foreign spouse and you'll be fine. You signed it and said he was okay. You're on the hook. Sorry.
