Hi guys,

I'm in a little bit of a predicament. I'm a recent graduate and I got married a year ago. I'm trying to sponsor my wife for green card but I'm having trouble since my income is not high enough to sponsor for the affidavit of support. I asked my parents to help me out but their income this year fell below the poverty guideline and we are trying to use savings to offset the difference. I know that the multiplier for the difference is x3 for spouse and children. Since I'm not going to sponsoring would my parents have to offset the difference x3 or x5. I'm hoping its a grey area and my parents can use the x3.(since their in-law father&mother).

Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

For you, the petitioner/primary sponsor, it would be 3 times because you are sponsoring your spouse. Your parents, as the joint sponsors sponsoring their daughter-in-law, would need 5 times.

Thank you for the response.

Another question I have is that my parents do have enough money abroad, but that would mean they would have to transfer it to their savings account. Do the USCIS care about large amounts of money being transferred for the affidavit of support or are they are more lenient on that stuff?

Thanks for the help
