A work permit is called an EAD. You can apply for an EAD as soon as you enter BUT it will only be good until the 90 days from your arrival and since it takes 60-90 days to get the card it is pointless

That dose not apply to k1 visas but to spousal visas your interview will be booked via your embassy not NVC.

I called the 603-334-0700 # and the message said that was for immigrant visas only. So they gave the number for non immigrant visas, which the K-1 is a non immigrant visa, correct? So I called that # and then they gave the list of things I need and that's when it said something about a passport # :(

Just came upon this and thought I would let you know that they actually don't need that- that's usually for people who applying for different visas. You can call either number- immigrant visa line or non immigrant line (because although k1 is technically a non immigrant visa it is processed like an immigrant visa because it has immigrant INTENT) either number is okay.

I've heard from many when they call the non immigrant visa line they are told their case isn't received and then they call the immigrant visa line a few minutes later and they have said yes it's received so I always call the immigrant line (ending in 0700) to be safe.

But yeah, You don't need the passport number. Esp if your calling to see if they received it or looking to see if they assigned a case number- they just want to know petitioner name and DOB and applicant name and DOB that's all so don't worry!

Applicant Passport # ?? that is strange !! why they would need such information at this stage!! it is confusing!!

The automated answerer states that you need that, but after that when you press 1 to speak with a person, they don't ask for it. Starting 9 days after my NOA2 date, I called every day for mine and they never asked for that. They always asked for receipt # from NOA2 first. Today they also asked for beneficiary date of birth and full name and my full name, which was the first time they had asked for additional information so that was my first clue that they had received :dancing:

Then they told me they had received case. They didn't ask for any other info, but I had the passport # ready in case they did ask.

yes you are right !! i feel so bad for who still waiting for their NOA2 ...or got RFEs !! waiting for NOA2 is harder and worse then NVC case number.

It seems to be averaging a little over two weeks now for the NVC to receive cases! All you can do is give it a shot and call! Your NOA2 was only two days after mine. I hope the best for you :)
