So I'm the petitioner and my spouse is the applicant. I received the NVC Welcome Letter (PAOSF) which gives me my NVC case number and invoice ID number.

I'm somewhat confused about a few of financial and supporting documents that were listed.

To narrow things down, here's what I need to know:

What do the Financial Documents below entail and are they mandatory?

1. Evidence of income (If I have my 1040 and W2, what else do I need again to prove my income?)

2. Proof of Relationship

2. Proof of U.S Status

What do the Supporting Documents below entail and are they mandatory?

1. Petitioner Documents (that’s pretty broad)

2. Police Certificates

3. Translations

What do the Financial Documents below entail and are they mandatory?

1. Proof of Relationship - Not needed from you, this is only necessary if you were combining income with an eligible household member

2. Proof of U.S Status - Also not needed from you, this was already established when you filed the I-130. Only a joint sponsor or household member would need this.

What do the Supporting Documents below entail and are they mandatory?

1. Petitioner Documents (that’s pretty broad) - documents that support your claim of income or asset on the I-864

2. Police Certificates - your spouse needs to obtain this if required

3. Translations - Document translations are Embassy/Consulate specific, what country is the beneficiary interviewing in?

Hello Ryan.

You said petitioner documents support my claim of income. I have my W-2 and 1040, in other words I have my tax information for 2015. So even with this, I still need more to support my claim of income? The w-2 and 1040 are still not good enough?

Because I was thinking if I already have my w-2 and 1040 for 2015, then the petitioner documents shouldn't be applicable anymore.

For Translations, the country my wife is interviewing in is Nigeria.

Paystubs showing what you have earned year-to-date (YTD) or a letter from your employer stating your job title, wage, and how long you have been with the company is what will support your current income claim.

You need a Nigeria specific answer in regards to document translation requirements.
