Just to speak out in support of driving on the left....

Way back when, in the olden times when people rode horses, you rode on the left side of the track or lane in case the enemy came in the other direction and you had your sword and your right hand closest to him to be on the attack. Most people are right handed so wore their sword on their right side. No good if the enemy is on your left.

And about marriages in other countries, non-EU residents need a visa to get married in the UK. Even if they are not staying and just want to get married and leave. I was surprised at how easily we got married in Washington. Although we had to have counselling because there was a brief period where it was required in Washington and we got married in that period. It was abolished a few weeks later.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

One of the differences is that we have no proof of single status here, so that is one less piece of paperwork. I can't remember how long we had to wait in Denmark, but it was at least several days. That makes it hard for wedding tourism and I'm sure has some impact on their economy.

3/2/18  E-filed N-400 under 5 year rule

3/26/18 Biometrics

7/2019-12/2019 (Yes, 16- 21 months) Estimated time to interview MSP office.

Why the marriage in the US is so easy?

I mean, you just need a passport, right??

In Italy if someone from another country wants to get married there is so much paperwork to do and it takes at least 10 days.

Why all this difference???

Marriage is a state issue in the U.S. and, as such, there are dozens of different laws.

In my state, there is a 3-day waiting period after obtaining the marriage license if either of the two persons are residents of the county where it is obtained*. If you are both from a different county, state or even country, you can get married immediately after filing for the license.

*Subject to pre-marital course completion

On a different note, I learned that if a post is being relocated while you are replying the reply will not follow it. I had tried to respond to this twice and was told it no longer existed, so I gave up. I was trying to figure out what was so offensive that it had to be deleted!

Oh woow that's impressive!!!!!

So if you can get married so easily, how fast is the marriage license to obtain? 5 minutes?:lol::lol:

I wish it could be so fast in Italy too!

5 minutes was about how long it took to get the license. Because I was a resident of the county (my then-finacee technically was not yet), we had to wait which was OK because we had planned on getting married 2 weeks later. If we had gone 1/2 hour North to a different county to get it, we could have had a 'destination' wedding on the same day!

I know Colombia has (or maybe had?) a 10 day wait/public notice period before getting married. I remember walking by Churches there and seeing pages of notices of upcoming weddings posted outside the doors to meet the notice requirements.

In Italy is the same, you wait 8 days (public) plus other 3 days!
