Hi!

I have filed an n-400 application in January 2016 and has now a schedule for interview in the US in June.

I am already with my husband in Italy-where he's stationed but expedited cases needs to be interview in the US.

I know that after the interview and oath taking, uscis will replace my permanent resident card with a certificate of naturalization.

My question is, can I go back to Italy without getting a US passport? I still have my Philippine passport (May 2019 expiry) and a soggiorno (permit to stay in Italy).

We'll be flying space-a.

Will the space-a personnel and immigration in Germany ask for my permanent resident card?

My husband needs to be back to work immediately and we don't have the time to wait for the processing of a US passport.

You will need a valid passport to go back to Italy. Your GC was what allowed you to return to the US but you need a passport to go back to Itatly whether visa is needed or not.

It is a bad idea to alternate between passports. You are no longer Philippines citizen unless you apply for dual citizenship.

Get the US passport and travel back to Italy, when you get to Italy, get your status updated there with your Philippines' passport and the US passport.

I suppose it wouldn't be difficult to transfer your privileges to your new nationality.

Your GC will be taken away from you at the naturalization interview.

You should make time to get the passport because you will end up wanting to use your American privileges and no one will have time to check your naturalization certificate (which is not a valid travel document). So if you are not ready to make the change then keep your Philippines' citizenship and naturalize when you have time.
