In reading the Canadian passport website, it says you must sumit a document supporting our identity such as a drivers license, and proof of canadian citizenship.

what have you done? Did you change your name on you passport to your married name or leave it as your maiden name?

It seems easier to leave it and just renew it.

Thanks in advance!

Full application, not the simplified one.

Guarantor, proof of citizenship, certified copies of document supporting your identity in your new name, the whole thing...

No, I did not do it as I never intended to change my name.

I changed my name before I even left because I wanted to use my married name. (I was more than happy to get rid of the old one.) If should should change it all depends on a) how much you want to travel and b) if you want to take up your married name or not.

I was in the same boat. It was such a hassle to get the name on my passport changed, that I started and quit a few times before finally pushing through the frustrations and getting it done. I still have a few credit cards that I haven't yet changed, but at least all my official IDs are now done.

The passport name change can be done by an immediate family member on your behalf provided you courier to them all your original supporting documents, but only if you have already changed the name on your drivers license first - this is the easiest "document supporting your identity" that the passport office is looking for.

But, in order to update the name on your driver's license (at least in Ontario), you must appear in person and bring a copy of your original certified marriage certificate. The reason they explained to me that you must appear in person is that you will need to update your signature and photo.
