To lawyer or not to lawyer?

I am now in the process of getting my K1 app together. My fiancee is in Thailand and there is an American firm in Bangkok that can handle it. I spoke to another attorney in California who said he had them handle his K1 for his wife. The name of the firm is White & Weber. http://www.usfamilyvisa.com

I'm sure this topic has been discussed sometime, I'm just unable to find it.

Thoughts?

Since you joined this website you don't need a lawyer.
Most of us here haven't used a lawyer. If you need to ask questions just post here on VJ. Use the money on the visa than on a lawyer :dancing:

It all depends on how comfortable you are filling out forms and following directions. If you prefer to have someone help you because you know that forms and directions are not your thing, feel free, but you should not need a lawyer unless you have a complicated case. This site has extensive resources and helpful members if you are very confident in yourself. Either way, all the information and documents will be gathered by you, so all a lawyer will do is review it and mail it for you. Most of them charge way too much for that. If the US based service is reasonably priced, there is nothing wrong with using them, but definitely comparison shop and do your due diligence on this site before deciding.

Good Luck,

Scott and Annalyn

No one has enough information to state this with authority. We know nothing of the OP's situation.

Total waste of money.

See above.

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

Then let me rephrase what I wrote earlier: If you're a regular couple with no criminal records or complicated family situation getting a lawyer is a complete waste of time and money. You're just paying someone to fill out paperwork you can do yourself and possibly even better than your lawyer. Seen plently of people on here with normal cases who didn't really need a lawyer and they ended up with RFE's because their lawyer messed up.

Too true.

To those of us who went through the process getting the visa meant being with our loved ones. It meant everything.

To a lawyer its just another job. If they get an RFE its a little more billable time.

Just follow the forms and the guides on here and it really isn't too complicated. The form is designed to be filled in by normal people, it really isn't that frightening when you get into it... and if there is a question you aren't sure on there is plenty of experience on these forums (much more than most lawyer would have).
