I'm searching for info on the use of reloadable debit card use. In doing some pre-planning, I am searching for anyone who has children that are not accompanying immediately and mechanisms used to provide support. If anyone has used reloadable debit cards to handle this a means of ensuring support is maintained and a paper trail. If so, what are the pros and cons? If not, what method was used?

I have narrowed it down to a couple but just trying to see if there was anyone else that would be willing to share their experiences and method(s) used.

Thanks

Don't know which card & I suspect you are referring to, JA a bank card can be used in JA for

purchases & at the ATM, HOWEVER a family member traveled to JA a few mths ago, he had

a reloadable WU card after attempting at several locations to get money & it was declined, he called

WU because he was wondering if his funds was hacked out, they informed him he can make purchase

& pay food bills but will not be able to access funds there as they stopped that service, I was also

hearing a rumor some establishments there wont accept reloadable gift cards from here .

Maybe you should open a bank account here, put the card/PIN in that one trusted person hand &

only make that deposit when you want them to receive money

Thanks...I will have him go to the bank and make some inquiries there and I do the same here. The obe I was looking at was a BB&T reloadable Visa card. I just don't want to go through the trouble of getting it here and running into the issue that you just mentioned.

Thanks for the insight.

I opened a Bank of America account that I had part of my paycheck go into each month to alleviate the fees. I got the card in my name and provided it to my husband in JA. He uses it at Scotia Bank which does not charge an ATM but a fee of about 1%. If he uses it at NCB we are charged an ATM fee of $5.00 plus the 1% fee. When he comes to USA we plan on leaving the card with the person taking care of the children and just keep the amount we want them to take out in that account. It is way cheaper than WU. We did try to use a reloaded card, but it did not work internationally. Whatever bank you choose make sure that you ask them what bank they are affiliated with in JA, that helps on what fees you have to pay. Hope that helps!

It helps out tremendously. I already have a couple of bank of America accounts so that might work out alot better. I had planned on going to BT&T to speak with them about the reloadable card they have....I alsontossed around international money orders as well. I just to be able to ensure that they needs are being met and to have additional documentation for continued support when we go to file for them.
