I have everything ready for submitting my AOS packet except the I-693. I am an F-1 student married to USC and require my EAD asap to start working. Will submitting the AOS packet without I-693 delay my EAD approval? Has anybody got their EAD recently without I-693? Can I submit it later at interview? It will take 2 weeks for me to get the I-693 docs ready. The USCIS page for I-693 says in the 'where to file' tab that:

If you are applying for adjustment of status, you may submit Form I-693 in one of the following ways:

  • Submit Form I-693 by mail, together with your Form I-485, Application to Register for Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, to the location specified for your Form I-485 (see “Direct Filing Addresses for Form I-485”).
  • Submit Form I-693 by mail, after filing your Form I-485, to the location specified in your most recent communication with USCIS (for example, a Request for Evidence letter from USCIS).
  • Submit Form I-693 in person, at an interview in a USCIS field office (if an interview is required).

I read in some other topic that now I-693 is required. Although I had the same concern when I was filing.

But after I did some research on civil surgeons, I was able to get my I-693 in literally 3 days with no hassle. Came in for the appt on Saturday, got the missing vaccine shots and the tuberculosis test. Came back on Tuesday, got my test read and got the papers right away. I don't know what the cituation like doctors wise in Indy, but I'm sure you can get it done quickly.

Hi SPC, we sent our AOS packet without the I-693 about 6 weeks ago, we had our bio metrics done also. We have not received an RFE for not sending the medical, The rules recently changed because interviews were taking more than a year, thus forcing people to get 2 medicals done because the i-693 is only good for a year. We sent a letter stating why we didn't send the i-693 and that we would be bringing it to the mandatory interview as stated on the uscis website. Who knows what uscis will do, they seem to not know their own policy's very well, hence the letter we sent explaining it.

Here is a link that explains the reasoning behind it.

Thanks Ellie Pro and Dirty Harry for both your perspectives.

I figured that I would wait another week and get my medical to send it in with the packet to avoid any RFE delays because it is not so clear about what USCIS requires.
