My husband arrived from Egypt on April 22, 2016 with IR-1 visa and is quickly growing antsy at home. Is he able to work with his visa stamp he received at the airport until we are issued the real deal by mail or is he a sitting duck at this point?

Any ideas on how to find employment when language barrier is an issue? I'd say he speaks about 50% English and can understand others only when they speak slowly and enunciate words. He also can not write in English and only understands a limited amount when reading.

ESL class is an obvious way for him to gain exposure and practice but he needs to work ASAP. Just looking for ideas at this point or others' stories of what they have pursued or experienced. Thanks!

He can work with the endorsed visa. Check the I-9 form. He'll need to apply for his SSN too.

With limited English, consider finding a place where Arabic speakers work, or maybe look into manual labor type stuff. An Egyptian cab driver told me that Egyptians were born to drive; not sure what I think of that but that's what he says :)

AOS for my husband

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
