Hi,

I am on a L-1 visa which expires in June 2016. I was wondering what options I have to obtain permanent residency here. My boyfriend (who is a US citizen) is serious about getting married but I was wondering if there is any other way to get a green card without marriage.

Through your employer or through your boyfriend if you marry and file for AoS.

Hi,

My L1 visa expires in one year and I was wondering if anyone had any information about how I would transfer this to a green card or another visa. If you could tell me what I can do and the time it takes that would be great!

Thanks

So the is no independent way to do it? What are the time frames for both?

What independent way are you looking for ? There is no way to get green card because you want it (unless you qualify for NIW), L-1 gives no benefit here other than employers knows you and can potentially petition in EB-category.

L-1 also has the advantage of being dual intent.

What would happen if I was on L1 visa and my employer applied for my green card and the application got rejected? Could I remain working for my employer for the duration of the L1? Would a rejected green card through my employer affect marrying my boyfriend and getting a green card that way?

Also if my boyfriend and I got married and I applied for AoS and the green card would I need to tell my employer straightaway or could I remain on L1 and tell them when I've received my green card?

If my boyfriend and I got married and I applied for AoS and the green card would I need to tell my employer straightaway or could I remain on L1 status until my green card comes in and then tell my employer?

if your I-485 is denied you are then usually referred to immigration court to begin deportation proceedings.

You wouldn't really be obligated to tell your employer anything unless your employment authorisation was somehow revoked. You are authorised to work now and after filing by virtue of your L-1; once you've received your EAD you are employment-authorised from that; and finally, the same once you've received your green card.

You may want to give them a copy of your EAD, once you receive it, and your green card, once you receive that, together with new I-9s to go with them. They might not even want/care about that though.
