Ok, so we're changing gears and filing for me to move to Canada instead of my hubby coming here. I am really struggling to re-learn all the applications, etc. without the massive knowledge that comes with this site. (the guides and stuff, man, they really did help).

Thank goodness for the folks over on the Canada board who are helping where they can, but DANG, you don't know how lovely all this info is... My head is all woozy trying to read everything over (and have it be slightly different)!!

I still keep popping in here, still keep checking my USCIS "no case exists" status, and updating my signature. It's like I've been pushed out of the nest or something.

Canada does look beautiful so good luck to you and as for "free health care" that's what we are supposed to have over here, you want to see what the government take out of my pay for "free health care" and then I have to pay for glasses, dentists on top of that, so nothing is free!!

weird, huh? or should I say, "weird, eh?"

We made this decision based on my husband's job opportunity that got dropped in his lap (no joke, he wasn't looking) and he is so happy there it kinda broke my heart to see the sparkle in his eyes when he was telling me all about it (he's a chef, and he got the chance of a lifetime that he says some chefs work their whole lives to get).

We were also having issues with the whole "selective service" thing, even though we aren't actively drafting in the states, he would have to sign up and it was causing us both anguish.

I look at it that we can try it for a year and if it isn't what he or we hoped for, we could always dcf, right? At least during the DCF process/wait we'd be together.

It's going to be a big adjustment for me, but I'm willing to embrace it for him.

i really admire your willingness to try alternatives and compromises. i'm sure canada will be just great. i've never been, but my friends who went to college there had really great experiences. if you continue to roll with the punches and stay positive, then i have no doubt that this new adventure will be a good one for you. and of course, you can always refile later if you like. wish you the best of luck!

Hopefully the process to move there isnt too difficult. I know that in about 5 or 6 years I will be going through this all over again, only the opposite direction. We are living in the US because I have shared custody of my daughter. Someday we will live in Sweden. The process looks a bit easier for me to move there and definitely cost a lot less.

Well thank you for that. I feel like I just have a *job* that pays my bills, but he has something that is making him so happy I really felt good about offering to switch gears.

On the moving process, I'm kinda looking forward to the road trip!! Maybe I'll feel different after 5 days of driving, lol, but I dunno - it's prolly the most adventurous thing I've signed up for - and I've done some crazy stuff!!

I made contact with one of his cousins who knows people in the computer graphics industry, she lives in the same town we'll be relocating to, so that is a PLUS. I am going to find out if I can sign up at some of the agencies here that are also in canada (kelly, appleone) just to make sure I can get at least temp stuff right after landing.

My only is moving my piano. I own a player. It weighs a boatload (over 600 lbs). I found out I can have the motor and mechanisms removed (they haven't worked for years and I was quoted $3K to get it fixed, which I'll never have really) and so that solves the problem of how I can get my piano to canada! After removing all of it, it'll weigh no more than a regular piano. (It is of great sentimental value, and I didn't want to sell or store it)

You should always take chances - standing still in life is not progress, and it leads to stagnation. Plus getting to old age and saying a of 'I wish' or 'I regret not doing..' is a sad comment on life.

Look forward, not back..the past is immutable and the future is fluid I say - so march boldly on to Canada!

Like I tell my 10 yr old, we're moving to a new country, what an ADVENTURE!

Sure we may find it hard adjusting but its still a huge adventure - the new people, places, foods, the differences, the similarities..a huge country to explore at some point - the sheer courage it takes and the sense of confidence you get on achieving it

This is the same situation for us. Joel is coming here because of the joint custody my ex and I share with my daughter. Believe me...I would much rather be in Nova Scotia with Joel, but sometimes ya do whatcha gotta do. In a few years, when we're able to move there, I'm thinking the process is easier. I think I remember something about a Family Reunification Act that Canada has (on another thread I believe) so if that's the case, my immigration should be easier.

I have no family here...lots of friends, but no family. So there's nothing to keep me here once the custody issue is over and done with. Good luck with your immigration
