Belated AWA Problems; Will This Plan Work? [split topic]

I married my wife in last year after having consulted with an immigration lawyer who told me that my background would not be an issue. Now after filing the I-130 11 months ago, I realize that he was either completely ignorant to the fact that this law existed or he just lied and took my money. It took two meetings with me showing him all that I have read online to convince him that there will be a problem with my application. Then he responded to me by telling me not to worry because we just needed a signed letter from my wife stating that she is aware of my conviction. Obviously all that is wrong and now I am guiding myself through this process of getting letters from friends and family, from my counselor, probation officer, etc. Also getting an assessment from a licensed psychologist to determine I am no risk to my wife.

Making things more difficult I guess is that my conviction is only 3 years ago. If people are having problems with their convictions from 20 years ago, I don't even know why I'm trying.

I guess I'm posting this in hopes of getting some advice on how to file my petition. I read on another thread from a guy who beat the AWA that one of the pieces of information he sent was a letter stating that he is not required to register as a predatory offender. I asked for this from my police station, they are looking into it but no answers. Anyone know where I might get this? Should my probation officer state it in his letter, would that be good enough?

Any other advice will be appreciated, thank you.
