Hi guys,

It is my one year anniversary today, and I am still in the US, and my husband is still in Mexico - with no end of our waiting in sight. Our DS260 application was approved on March 17, and we are still waiting for our appointment.

I applied for the I130 in July of last year. Our petition was approved in December. It took the NVC 2+ months to get us immigrant visa number. I sent the DS260 and financial affidavit of support in February and it was approved in March, but nothing since then.

I have called all the numbers for the embassy in Mexico, and the US, and I can never get a hold of a human.

I called the NVC and they were no help and wouldn't tell me anything.

I reached out to a local senator with no one ever returning my calls or getting back in touch with me.

In communication with the lawyer I have been consulting with, she has told me that there is nothing that will expedite the process other than war breaking out in Mexico, or if my husband is in physical danger.

When our petition was approved back in December she originally told me that my husband would be here by February/March at the latest.

We are well into May with no end in sight.

I don't feel comfortable sitting on my hands and doing nothing.

If we could get an appointment with days notice, we would do anything for him to be there.

There must be something else that I can do?!?! I don't know but I am so tired of waiting and we are stuck in marriage purgatory.

If anyone knows of numbers that connect to a human, or any steps that I can take to get him an appointment please let me know.

Please help! Please help!

Thank you,

First thing to do is drop that lawyer who told you he would be there within 2 months of the I-130 being approved. Nonsense! You only need to look at the hundreds of individual timelines on here to know that's not true.

Actually your timescale is not that bad. I know it doesn't seem that way to you but you will see most people here wait about a year from sending the I-130 to the interview date. Some embassies are more back logged than others for visa appointments. Even London, which doesn't see huge numbers of visa applications due to many UK citizens able to visit under the visa waiver program, has a six-week wait for an interview. Have a look at some other Mexican timelines and see what the average wait for an interview date is. The timelines here are from real people going through the same process. Not some fairy tale that the lawyer told you.

Are you able to visit?

The end is in sight! This is just the last little hurdle. Stay positive.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

I know it is a long wait, but it is normal. it is currently just over a year, on average, from filing to interview, so you still have 2+ months to go.

OP, the normal wait time for I-130 is about a year. You can view other's timelines here on VJ.

I have to be honest. My views on lawyers regarding immigration has drastically changed for worse over the years. I know there are some good ones out there but just like the situation the OP has with her lawyer they are not worth the hassle and money.

Hi everyone! Thank you for your support. I just wanted to keep y'all posted. After spending all day yesterday, unsuccessfully, trying to get a hold of humans and in touch with someone that could help me - at the end of the day we got a visa appointment for June 16!!! I think the two events (my trying to contact someone and sending an update request, and then getting the appointment at the end of the day) were completely coincidental. But I couldn't have asked for a better 1 year anniversary gift!!!

I think if all goes well my husband will be here sometime in July, which is exactly one year since I sent the I130 application.

I am very pleased.

BTW I don't pay the lawyer I consult with. I have legal insurance for $16 a month at my work. Even though she gave me bad advice regarding our timeline (really bad advice), the rest of the services she has provided for us (i.e. reviewing all of our paperwork, telling us what to include, and to remove) has been essential to our case. I would have made mistakes on our paperwork that I am confident would have set us back a while. I couldn't afford to pay someone thousands of dollars in legal fees. I consult with her on my case at no additional cost (than $16 a month), and it has been totally worth it!

Thank you all for your support and good advice.

Does anyone know if my husband needs an original or certified copy of my US birth certificate at his consulate appointment in June? I can't get a straight answer from anybody about it.

Thank you thank you!!!
