Not received SSN - applying at the local office question

Hello All,

During the immigration application, we had checked the option to get the ssn.

However, my wife (CR-1) has not received her SSN after arriving to the US after 4 weeks. So, we are going to apply it at the local office.

What documents should we take to the local office?

In the SS-5 form (the new SSN application form), there is line no 11.

This line says "has the person applied for the SSN card before? Y or N"

Should we check "Y" or "N"?

We are confused. Please advise.

It's always a 50/50 chance that the SSN will be issued.

4/6 of my family members received their SSNs automatically. The other 2 had to go in person to apply.

I suggest you check 'No'. You just need their passport and SS-5 form.

Maybe just ask at the SS office desk when you are there. You can check the box when you're there. They have more insight.
