flights- where best to search uk to usa

Hi

I am wondering about flights from uk to usa for when visa is approved, is there a best website - does anyone have excellent results with specific flight searches. I know when we go to book we will be looking for flights leaving within 4 weeks max. the sooner the better. theres so many websites it starts to get confusing at what ones youve checked . These are mainly return flights

I have found skiplagged.com which does one way flights- on this i have found flights scotland to detroit for £345 though this is based on maybe low seasons, taand sometimes its bit longer travel time but money well saved which can be used eleswhere. Is it better to book direct with airlines. I will be probably traveling through summer months July/August which can be costly. Ive even looked at london flights and wow they seemed over expensive .

We always use BA, which is why all the accumulated air miles came in handy, and a first class one way ticket with all the luxury and extra baggage you could want became as cheap as a economy class round trip. For us there was only ever one direct flight from the UK into Baltimore, so booking directly with BA (the only one that provides the flight) seemed the best option. Flights in summer are always going to be costly, but other factors such as the day you fly on also may change the price a great deal. You'll have to experiment.

Its interesting the different search engines we use for flights - netflights which is new to me- I found to be good with some pricing and airlines- it has made me look at icelandair as they give you 2 cases at 23kg checked baggage so thats a plus in that it will save me with shipping costs possibly. My problem is i have to fly from Scotland to either chicago or detroit so it narrows down your searches( as much as i love flying when immigrating with child and lots of luggage maybe and POE to consider you want an easy route ).Im also unfortunate that in that I dont have air miles to use (which is a big plus certainly something to bear in mind going forward with flights home etc).

Thank you for you replys its given me some research to do keeps me busy will we wait .

I flew Glasgow to Chicago via Reykjavik with Icelandair. I think it was roughly £425 for a one-way trip, and like you say the two free checked bags is a massive advantage. They were also really comfortable, plenty of room, and had phone chargers at each seat (although I was charged for dinner). Like yourself I don't have any kind of airmiles or whatever but they were a pretty good option for me.

God love you all with your young spirit, willing to fly all over the shop to save a few quid.

I wish it was as easy as one flight but flying from Scotland doesn't always give you a lot of choices for final destinations in USA and the ones that are available- are too far away from your new home. America sure is vast.

Anyway its fun trying to negotiate through strange airports worrying about connections, luggage, children. But the best part is your finally there in USA ready to start your new life with your loved ones, so if it takes couple of connections I can live with that.

Edinburgh flies non-stop to Newark NJ (New York City basically). United has a hub at both locations.

They also have a hub in Chicago and do weekend non-stop flights from Edinburgh to Chicago.

Young spirit! I like that! I'm 42 but I still feel 19 at times. I've kept a list of all the airports I have passed through and I am at 102 now. It's a bit of a challenge between us at work. I like the adventure of an obscure route. My absolute cheapest return ticket was £122.50 on Air Canada. I used air miles to get to Copenhagen and then took AC from CPH to YYZ and then onwards to SEA. Coming back was SEA to YVR and then the ticket was from YVR to CPH but conveniently via LHR. I had hand luggage only so when we got to LHR I got on the national express back home and no-showed on the flight to CPH.
