Hello, to whom have been through the Naturalization process.

I am wondering whether one can get the naturalization certificate on the day of Oath, or this certificate will be mailed to you later?

Also, it is true you can apply for US passport at the spot of the Oath ceremony?

I am also wondering whether different field office treat cases differently, could you kindly leave your field office info?

Thanks!

Fort Smith, Arkansas- get naturalisation cert at the oath, and are made to sign it right there.

Can't apply for passport at USCIS, but you could go to the passport office the same day.

Hello Everyone, hope everybody's Friday starts off great.

Sorry I have a couple more questions to consult you guys.

When you apply for passport, do the officer take the original naturalization certificate with the application, and later on the original certificate would be returned to you together with your passport? Or once they check the original, they only keep the copy on file, you can take the original certificate home?

Also, when you go through naturalization, can you apply for more than one certified copies for your naturalization certification on spot?

Thanks a lot!!!

They take your original, You will get it back, but in a separate envelope from your passport (security meassure), often a day or two before your passport arrives.

Not sure on your second question, but I do not think so.

See Penguin's response above for the first question.

The answer to the second question is no. You only get one natrualization certificate. You can apply for a replacement certificate, which costs $345.

This form requires you to state the reason you need a replacement (I honestly don't know if saying that you just want a second one will be accepted as a reason).

There is also a special certificate you can order, which is not a replacement; this is specifically designed to be handed over to a foreign government agency to prove your citizenship. I guess some countries (although they must be very few and I don't know which ones) require this as proof of your naturalization

Both these types of replacements are ordered using a N-565 form.

They take your original, You will get it back, but in a separate envelope from your passport (security meassure), often a day or two before your passport arrives.

Not sure on your second question, but I do not think so.

Apparently not all offices do this, although it is Department of State policy. Several Boston applicants have got the passport and Certificate back in the same letter... not sure if it's just a Boston thing.
