Need job to lease apartment? (unusual situation)

Hello. So, looks like I'll be emigrating to Texas next month after I get my interview done. Here's the issue:

My wife lives in Michigan. She has a good job but she's telling me she would need a job in texas before been approved for an apartment there? Here's the other thing: I actually have a job in Houston from the second I land (lucky hey). So its the other way round than normal, I'll be the working one initial and my wife will be looking for a job.

I was hoping we could get an apartment straight away, maybe stay in a hotel for a week, do some viewings, then move in.

She has a good credit score. But again, this is all in michigan. We can still lease or not? Surely we are able to, otherwise how would people move from state to state.

Her credit score will travel with her. Some very strict appartment management firms may give you trouble because the one making a salary has no credit score, and the one having a good credit score has no income. However, I think if you can explain, you will be fine- if you had a low credit score because you didn't pay your bills, it would be a different matter, but you simply do not have one because you never worked and paid bills in the USA before. If you rented in the UK, a letter fro your landlord stating that you lived there for X years and always paid in time may help.

It is up to the landlord; there are no set rules. But new immigrants move all the time and figure out something so I believe it can be done. A letter from your work and a letter from your former landlord will go a long way.
