L2 officer (Level 2 officer) is an Immigration Officer who can access your record internally. The persons picking up on the USCIS customer service number just know what we know so you have to ask them to transfer you to a L2 officer. While some hesitate to do so, some will do the transfer. They can see your record on the system and tell you where is your case at currently.

If you belong to IOE group and it's been a while your biometrics is done, then i recommend you talk to L2 officer. While it does not speed up the process, at least you would know what's happening just for the relief of your mind. For me at least now i know, i am not being held up due to background check. So now it's up to the field office to schedule interview.

May IOE filer here. Just got off the phone with L2 officer. He informed me that my case has been placed in queue for interview. He did not tell me when that happened, so I cannot confirm the "30 day before GC anniversary" theory.

I asked if the IOE applications are experiencing delays due to the new system. He said no, they are processed just like the old ones.

I asked why the online case status has not been updated since the "On May XX, we mailed you a biometric notification..." and if I should see the status change once I am scheduled for interview. He said the online status is not always updated and that I will be notified (I guess via regular mail) when my interview is scheduled.

I called up the 1-800 number and was met with an extremely unhelpful representative, who flat outright refused to transfer me to a L2, despite me asking three times. He also claimed that it is incorrect information that I have, that interview inlines are not always updated in the system.

I don't think that you get an in-line status for IOE applications. I think it just changes to interview scheduled.

I also talked to an officer today and he told me the same thing, that I'm in line for interview, he didn't give any dates. He said now it depends on the field office to schedule the interview.

I guess it's a common message they are giving now after biometrics are done, so basically it's it's a common sense that we will be in line for interview after fingerprinting, and therefore officers are informing anyone who calls the same thing.

I called 3 times today. 2 of times the L1 tried not to transfer me and weren't helpful at all but the third one was great. They transferred me but I was put on an automated call return. They called back but my wife wasn't there and they refused to talk to me. The L1 told me that if I go beyond 90 days after biometric, I can call and they will put in a query to the field office. At least that's better than waiting 5 months.

I've already been thinking that maybe there's no more case status "in line for interview" with the IOE numbers, and we'll just receive our interview letter at some point. No point to be alarmed, I think. Even if it takes a little longer with the new system, what's the big deal? We have come this far, so what does it matter if it takes a month or two longer? I'm not worried at all.

I was able to view my case statuses online and I was also sent the notices in the mail. So even if something were lost in the mail, I could print a copy of it. Now with no online notifications, and no guarantee that our mail won't be lost/returned, we are left not knowing if we have possibly missed the interview/oath ceremony.

The excuse that this "new and improved" online notification system will not give us online updates just doesn't fly.

You make a very good point here, the poor communication habits of USCIS is unacceptable.

I was wondering whether anyone had feedback/comments:

I was able to speak with a L2 officer who confirmed that my application is under background checks at this time (fingerprints done on 5/25) When I asked her whether the delay is on the FBI side, she mentioned that the processing is happening at the field office. Does this mean that name checks are happening? Or that USCIS is processing the results sent by FBI?

An L2 officer called us and my wife and I spoke to him. He said it is with the field office waiting to be scheduled for an interview and told me I could call back every Friday for an update.

I have no idea.

I am just dissatisfied with having to call to be told we will not receive some notifications online or apparently even in the mail with their new online system when we previously received both.
