So, we filed our I-130 for a CR1, and the application was received and forwarded to the NSC. We received NOA1 dated from March 24. Since I am a US citizen sponsor, we do not need to wait for a visa to become available, so it should begin processing without a waiting period.

When I check the myUSCIS portal, I see a "Case Was Received" notice.

My question is-- is this ever going to change? What are the standard updates to see as the process slinks along?

It takes about 5-6 months for the approval or an RFE. Unless you get an RFE the next update online will be approval and forwarding to the Department of State.

So around August or September you should hear something.

Otherwise nothing will update and you will have zero idea what is going on.

I see its gone to Nebraska. Youll probably have about a four month wait now for it to be approved. The initial wait for the petition to be approved, I found, is the hard part. It's the longest time throughout the entire process when you will hear nothing until it's approved. NVC has been the easy part as far as I'm concerned, as there's more updates, progress that you can see happening.

Welcome, fellow Nebraska filer! They are currently working to a 4.5 month turnaround although that could change at any time. Most of that time your file will be sitting in a box doing nothing along with our file and the thousands of others. It's frustrating but keep busy.
