Hubby had his biometrics this morning, said it was easy but more thorough than what he had to do in the past. They took both full hands scan, both thumbs and pointer fingers scan (so far all the same as what he had done before) then they did each finger thoroughly (roll the finger from side to side and tip to palm) then that was it! 10 min and he was done. He said it was more trouble to find parking near the federal building than it was for anything else!

Are you in Chicago? Just wondering, since you mentioned Federal building and that seems to be in downtown :/

Just go asap. A lot of offices don't even care when your appointment is. You just come in with the letter and they'll do it. I remember by us when we did the biometrics for AOS, they were like show us the letter - we just pulled it out and they didn't even look at it, just saw that we pulled out some piece of paper and let us in. We did go the day of the appointment, but went in the morning instead of the time that it said on the letter.

If they won't let you, then call USCIS and tell them to reschedule.

Whenever I sent anything to USCIS, I just used the regular Priority Mail using the free envelopes the USPS gives you. Costs like $5 no matter how many papers you stuff in there (as long as you can still close the envelope) and gets there in 2 days with tracking.

Good to see you on this VBTWO, we were on the same AOS thread a few years ago! :)

That's odd! They scheduled your biometrics in that tiny of a window? Don't they usually give at least a month's cushion?

We did a walk-in today, and it was fine. Afterwards we called and were told that if the fingerprints were accepted, then there wouldn't be a problem.

Our letter was dated May 13, post-marked May 16, and the appointment was May 31.

April 27, 2016: I-751 mailed

May 2: I-751 received

May ??? NOA1

May 12: Check cashed

May 31: Biometrics appointment scheduled

June 1: Biometrics appointment letter arrives!

June 2: Biometrics walk-in

Does anyone know if you can renew your driver's license with an expired green card? Will they reissue another drivers license if you show the DMV the NOA1 letter stating the conditional resident status has been extended for 1 year?

Yes she should be able to take the one year extension letter to the DMV and they will renew her license for the one extra year. I say should because not all the folks at all DMVs are knowledgeable/familiar with all the forms and letters that the USCIS issues. So be prepared to explain her case, and potentially go to multiple DMVs until you find one that is familiar with the letter and renews her license.

My USCIS Journey...

I had an I-485 filing already submitted through an employment-based application. Post-marriage, I submitted an I-130, which after being approved was interfiled with the existing I-485.

Interfiling/AOS Timeline:

01/03/14 - Day 274 - Interfiling request received by USCIS

04/03/14 - Day 364 - Interfiling service request sent

04/30/14 - Day 391 - Second interfiling service request sent

05/19/14 - Day 410 - Email sent asking for case status update

06/04/14 - Day 426 - Response received that I-485 was transferred to NBC

06/05/14 - Day 427 - I-485 updated to "sent to local office for processing"

07/02/14 - Day 454 - Status changed to testing & interview. Interview date August 4!!

08/04/14 - Day 487 - Mini-Stokes interview. IO intended on approving AOS but the computer did not show I-130 approval. The wait goes on...

08/18/14 - Day 501 - Spoke with Tier 2 IO - said that my I-485 is approved but no card prodn ordered. Asked to call back in 2 weeks if no update.

08/29/14 - Day 512 - Spoke with Tier 2 IO - said that my I-485 was not approved yet, but my file was with an IO for a decision

09/03/14 - Day 517 - Wrote a request to my Congressman asking for assistance

I'll let you know later this morning. I sent mine off to Sac but they say they never received it so I'm off to my local (CA) DMV this morning. Will let you know how I get on.

Well that was easy. Not even a (long) queue. Took no more than 45mins which must be some kinda record.

I took the completed DMV form, current DL, GC (expired). I said I wanted to renew the DL. He took all my details - did show him the NOA1 but to be honest I'm not sure if he actually read it. Just renewed it for two years , gave a me temporary license print out valid for 60 days and said if I didn't get my licence in that time to come back in and they'd extend it again.

Really easy. This was a CA DMV office north of the bay area btw.

No fee either as it's just a document change (in their parlance). Bit of a result all told :-)
